Well, the other day I was looking at Glocks. I figured to go along with my S&W 686 and my 870, I needed a black plastic autoloader. I figured I could swing 500-600 dollars, which is the going rate for a Glock out here in California.

So, as I've been thinking about a Glock 22, I went to see one in the gun store. I don't really like them. I like their reputation, and I like their toughness, and great finish. I don't really like that they don't have any thing on them besides a trigger. The grip angle feels a little strange, and I don't think their that great looking.

However, I'm a bit of a "function over form" kinda guy, so I figured if it's a quality firearm, etc. and it's ugly, that's fine by me.

Anyhow, I've always wanted a Sig, but as of now, I just can't justify 700-800 dollars on a gun. That's the price of Sigs out here.

So, as I was holding this Glock, I looked over in the case, and saw a Sig Pro. I loved how it looked, and I love the decocker, DA/SA, and all that jazz.

I held it, and I liked it. It looks great, feels good in my hand, and now I don't want a Glock as much anymore. Ideally, I'd like a P226 with a rail, but as before, I just can't swing the price. The Sig Pro and the Glock are almost identical in price.

So, what are the current opinions of this? I've searched the forums, and read some things about the Sig Pro, and the general consensus is that it's a great gun overall. Any other opinions, tips, things to be aware of, etc.?

Anyone here own a Sig Pro and shoot it a lot? I'd be getting one in .40 if I do get one.

Thanks everyone. :)

I have a 9mm SIG Pro, and it's AMAZING......easily one if not the best bargains out there in combat/defensive handguns (the Springfield XD competing). Mine has a super-smooth trigger, is EXTREMELY accurate, and every bit as SIG as the classic line. I love it.

That's what I keep hearing... Man... I really want one... :scrutiny:

Question about CDNN. It seems that people often order guns from here, and that they are a great reputable company. They offer standard Sig Pros for about 389, which is MUCH cheaper than anyone out here gets them for. With the local 50 dollar FFL fee, and possible 20 or so for shipping, would they be a better place to get one from?

Are they factory new unless stated otherwise? Do they have a problem shipping to California?

Thanks again.

Just make sure it's on the "state approved" list before you pay. Your money is as green as anyone else's and they have no problems taking it. Make sure it ships with neutered mags though.

Congrats on finding the cheapest way to buy firearms in California. The markup on stuff out here is, for the most part, ridiculous.

Have you thought about getting a Springfield XD-40, instead?

I have one of these and it is a fantastic shooter. Better trigger than the Glock, better grip angle too. Utterly reliable and accurate as any other 40SW I have ever shot.

I paid about 400 for this thing in a nice hard case with an extra magazine. Couple this with the lifetime warranty that SA puts on these pistols and they're really hard to beat. I was not expecting to like this pistol that much, but I'd be lying if I said I was not impressed with the performance of this thing.

For the money, I really beleive the Springfield XDs are the best bargains out there.

I actually almost bought one a while ago. I've shot them before, and I liked them overall. I was a little dissapointed to hear about the finish on them, and that it's not that great, and seems to be prone to rust. Because of that, I was going to get a Bi-Tone XD. Out here though, they are pretty much the same price as the Sig Pro, so price doesn't come out to be much of a factor.

As far as looks and "features", I like the Sig Pro the best. I'd like to have a gun with a decocker, and DA/SA, for no reason other than just because I've always wanted one like that.

The price range all seems to be around the same out here though...

I guess I'll have to think about all this...

Info is somewhat dated but those $%&(@# @ CDNN won't even ship USED handguns to my state.
I don't do business with them anymore because of it.....

Have had a bunch of Glocks and generally like them and have a 5" XD in 9 that certainly has a much better trigger.

Also had a SIG Pro, it's a much better gun than both the above.
Ergonomics are much superior, great trigger and the accuracy that SIG is legendary for..

Have you ever FIRED a Glock? :barf: That'll change your opinion real quick.

Sold away all my Glocks and now just run XD's for my plaxic guns (and on rare occasion my HK USP)...SigPro's now on my list, too, after I shot one a few weeks ago...it's a nice for plaxic.

Sold my Glocks because I got so damned tired of pulling the trigger and waiting for the damned thing to decided whether or not to wake up, get out of bed, and have a cup of coffee before going to work and go bang. :banghead:

Doesn't matter if I can put 1"-2" groups at 15yds with a 17, 34, 22, 24, 35 or 21 if I can't stand the trigger action.

If you can, go shoot the SigPro and XD...you'll find they are light years ahead of the Glock.

I liked the XD, but I've never shot a Sig Pro. They look so great though. I love how they feel in my hand also. I guess I'll just do what I figured what I was gonna do, and find a way to get one...

I got a solid price quote from the "better" gun store up here. They quoted me 700$! I can't believe that's what they want for a NIB Sig Pro. He told me that MSRP was around 695 or so, and that Sig always chooses their selling prices...

The other gun store out here, which I don't like nearly as much, as the guys who were there aren't so great, have one brand new, sitting in the store for $600... I don't quite get what's going on here.

The classic Sigs are 7-8 something. The Sig Pro shouldn't be 700...

Grrr... It seems like this guys jerking me around. :scrutiny:

Plinkerton,

before you dismiss the Glocks, check out their compact versions, in your case the Glock 23 (compact .40). The finger grooves are not as wide spaced as the full size and fits my hand MUCH better. I cant shoot a fullsize Glock worth a crap, but I'm a lot better with the compact. It feels better, actually it feels borderline good in my hands.

Go back to the shop and take a look, it might fit you. It never hurts to try it out except that you might end up liking it. :D

I don't like glock, main reason is the trigger and grip angle. Have you checked out a kimber ten-II? 14 rounds of .45 is tough to beat, mine ran $550.00. There are some negative comments about kinbers, but there are more posative ones. 1911 functio, anti di-fi mags, black plastic frame, best of both worlds.

Plinkerton;

My plastic pistol is an H&K USPc in .40. Are you aware that the H&K USP's are available in a variety of operating modes? You can oder what you want, & if you don't like it, it can be changed.

I'm sure that the H&K, in the local retailer's case, is comparable to the price of the SIG. I'm not sure what CDNN's price would be, or the Kali compatability either.

The reason I didn't go Glock was because the H&K fit my hand much better. The reason I didn't go SIG is was because the H&K is much more left-friendly.

I love USPs but they are just too expensive. They are around the price of classic Sigs, and when all said and done, would come out to about 8-900. That's a bit too rich for me right now.

I like Glocks, but everything seems to feel better when I hold it. Sigs, XD's, USPs, etc.

I've always wanted a USP, so if money were no object, I think that would be first choice. Than maybe a P226 or something like that.

As of now, I think I'm looking at a Sig Pro (from some place other than that gun store) or an XD or a Glock.

The Kimber look nice, but I don't want a 1911-ish gun at the moment.

I guess I just gotta price shop around. Maybe Gunbroker.

My 0.0158 Euros

Sigs are extraordinary firearms. I've never shot one of there Pro models, but don't doubt they are excellent, too. I keep shooting my P245 without internal cleaning, just to see how dirty it needs to get before I encounter my first FTF/E. It didn't even hiccup during break-in. Wipes with a RIG Rag have kept its allegedly fragile finish from blemishing. With a Sig, you only cry once: when you pay for it.

A deal on a polymer .40SW that is hard to beat is the Steyr M40 from CDNN. I have one of those, and it is a pleasure to shoot. It has a fairly crisp trigger, with an action similar to Glocks. The M40 has the Glockesqe trigger safety, as well as a manual safety, and a key lock, features missing on the Glock that might be to your liking. One point of concern: last trip to the range, I had two apparent light strikes on one round of white box Winchester ball ammo. It touched off on the third try, and it was heavily dimpled from the first two attempts. I suspect the primer was defective. The rest of the box was flawlessly digested by the M40.

IMO, their better looking than Glocks, too. (Of course, Glocks are, again IMO, the Quasimodos of handguns, so YMMV. )

Look carefully at this models grip angle, though. Your sensitivity to the grip angle on a Glock might apply to the M40, too, although the grips are contoured differently. The low barrel axis on the M40 keeps muzzle flip down to a level similar to a 9mm Walther P99, in my experience.

Speaking of which, CDNN has really good deals on P99s, too :)

I realize Glocks aren't the best looking guns around, but in my opinion, the Steyr takes the cake on the "Quasimodo" of handguns... ;)

I have heard good things about them though.

I have a SigPro in .40 and carry it daily. I have had it for about 5 years now. I love it. Its on my hip as we speak.

We also have an XD-40, which is also a wonderful gun too. The price of the two is very close, so I would take a close look at both before I bought one.

The Glock is a Glock and needs no introduction.

Personally, I'd go with the SIGPro over the Glock.

My SIGPro 2340 just feels right in my hand and makes me look good at the range. At about the 800 round mark, it's proved as accurate and reliable as my SIG P226 9mm.

I don't even like sigs and I like the SigPro. I'll wait until I can get one with a DAK trigger though and happily shoot and carry my Glocks in the mean time. Yeah, the Glock trigger and grip angle feel weird when you're standing in the gunstore looking at guns. Put two thousand rounds through your glock and the grip angle and the trigger won't feel weird anymore.

Of all the plastic pistols, the sig pro is actually my favorite, although the Walther P99 is a close second.

They are well-built, reliable, accurate, and comfortable guns, although they're not quite as easy to conceal as a compact or subcompact Glock.

CDNN is an excellent source for handguns, but it takes a bit of coordinating to buy from them if you don't have an FFL. CDNN is a large distributor and many shops already use them, then mark up the guns for retail sale. They will not appreciate you trying to bypass their profit margin (no shop is in business to break even).

Many small shops, however, have not heard of CDNN and will treat your purchase the same as if your were buying one off of GunBroker, GunsAmerica, etc. and just charge you a transfer fee.

I have used both methods to buy from CDNN.

Best deal on a Plastic Pistol? Ruger!

I've had a Glock, and it wasn't too bad.
I've had a Colt, and it was finicky about ammo.

If you really meant what you said about function being more important than appearance, then, without question, the best deals are from Ruger.
The older P-series are still available at amazingly low prices (new for under $300 here in Pensacola).

My new P345 .45ACP is accurate enough out of the box to have fun plinking at clay birds set against the 50 yard back-stop [no, I don't hit them every time, but I come close enough to make it very interesting]. I've put over 500 rounds through it with cheap (Wolf and others) ammo, and have never had a failure to feed, fire, or extract.

Admittedly, some of the Ruger 9mm models can be touchy about ammo. My P95DC wouldn't feed reliably until I tried 140+ grain loads. It performs flawlessly with Winchester 147 Gr JHPs. It is more accurate than I am, and if I wanted to shoot lighter bullets, a different recoil spring would probably address that issue.

In summary:
-American made.
-Great prices.
-Great reliability and accuracy.

If I were invited to a gun fight, I wouldn't hesitate to take either Ruger as my date.

I believe that the Springfield XD is better than the Glock.
It fits my hand like a glove and is very well balanced. The grip on the XD appears to be placed a little bit more forward than the Glock, so the sense of balance is better achieved.

I have never had my hands on a SIGPRO, so I will offer no opinion on these.

I do not like the HK, It does not fit my hand well and seems awckward to hold.

As for the Glocks...I do not really like the full size Glocks; they seem to be off in thier balance and just uncomfortable in general to hold. That being said, I love the Glock 30 - it is the sub-compact in .45 ACP. With the 10 round mags there is space enough on the grip for my pinky to rest, and with the barrel being shorter the balance point is placed closer to the grip.
