@Kim

The BATFE has about 300,000 transferable machineguns on the NFA registry.

in Iraq each family is allowed one full auto AK 47/74 for home protection under US occupation law.

I did not know this. If it is true they must love us for allowing them to protect themselves. Why doesn't the libral news media tell us about things like this? ...Oh, wait, I just answered my own question.

10-RING - "That doesn't count the ones in this state [California] that were registered before the ban...."

I lived in Los Angeles at that time. People who were in the gun business, shooting sports, hunting, etc., during those sad days estimated that no more than 10% of the owners of "evil," banned semi-auto rifles registered them. Don't know how many AR-15 owners did not register with the communistnazis in Sacramento, but I know it was in the thousands upon thousands of banned rifles that were not registered.

Before the ban, you could not go to a shooting range, formal or "plinking" out in the boonies, where you did not see the "evil" semi-auto rifles. ARs, H&Ks, FALs, SKSs, AK-47s, Galils, Uzis, various clones, ad infinitum. They were everywhere.

When the communistnazi inspired Roberti & Roos got their "assault" bill passed, those "evil" guns, most of them, just "disappeared."

I think a fair estimate would be somewhere in the neighborhood of five to seven million.

cbs... no offense intended, but you're in Massachusetts. That's like one state away from the Soviet Union. I'm not surprised you don't see many

I'm in MA and own 3 AR-15's.Contrary to popular belief,it's not hard at all to get the permit for owning an AR.It's a PITA compared to most states that don't require such for longarms,but virtually anyone over 21 can jump through the hoop to get an AR.MA gun shops do a brisk business in selling them,since the election they're an exceptionally hot item.Used ones don't last very long on the rack at all.While some of us are stocking up,there are more and more shooters out there that want to have one " just in case they get banned for good" ,even though we still have to abide by the old AWB.

You need to get a LTC Class B which allows you to own large capacity rifles, and handguns with less than 10rds. Its funny but I have yet to see a AR at the local range. I knew people must have them but I only know one person who owns one and he lives near Foxboro.

You have to wonder how many ARs and AKs are garage built. I have at least 7 ARs if I put all my parts together along with two FALs, plus a store bought AK and about a dozen SKS.

AKs can be made fairly easily from 80% undocumented receivers.

A lot of home builders will build multiples too, since they are trying to amortize their tools.
