Who said anything about a snubby? I'm looking for a load for my 4" Model 64.
I know that there used to be a Corbon +P+ .38 special load that was 1300 fps or more from a 4" gun, but I have had trouble finding anything like it. The fastest I'm finding is 1000fps or so which is pretty lame for a 110 or 125 grain bullet.
I might just stick with my heavy, soft lead HPs at 900 fps...
The above is what I use in my .38 Special revolvers that can handle +P.
I like the REMINGTON ammo because of the exposed lead tip of the hollow point should initiate expansion. I have been very satisfied with it.
I use FEDERAL 125 grain NYCLAD hollow point in my non+P guns.
I also have some WINCHESTER 110 grain ammo, but it does not shoot to the same point of aim.
WINCHESTER also advertises some 125 grain JHP.
I stick with the 125 grain +P because it does not have the heavier recoil of the 158 grain ammo and I believe will work as well for defense.
+1 with golden. I use the 125 grain sjhps. I did some testing with phone books in another caliber and found lead bullets with thin or little copper jackets could cause serious wound channels.
i hate golden sabers the jackets are to hard i am using hornady critical defense 110 gr +p i dont know about the fps but out of my 2 inch model 15 i shot a wounded cow that weighed around 800lb for our neighbor and at the crack of the gun she dropped in her tracks i shot her about 8inches below her head in the neck the bullet mushroomed perfectly and broke her neck i know this from when we quartered her to take her to the butcher i recovered the bullet if it will break cow neck bone it will do anything i need for a 2 legged critter
