What is the fastest non-wildcat rifle round?

Can't say that its #1 but the .204 is up there. I think its close to 4000fps.

.17 Rem, .204 Ruger and .220 Swift are at the top of the heap, running in excess of 4,200 FPS.

17 Rem = 20 grain bullet at 4,436 FPS.
223 WSSM = 40 grain bullet at 4,362 FPS.
22-250 = 40 grain bullet at 4,224 FPS.
220 Swift = 40 grain bullet at 4,213 FPS.
204 Ruger = 32 grain bullet at 4,081.

Hodgdon shows a 20 grain at 4,037 as the fastest load for it.

non-wildcat is a bit misleading. Almost every cartridge STARTS as some kind of wildcat, the 22-250 for example.

Probably the .17 Remington, although .204 Ruger is not far behind.

That's the original .17 Remington, not the new .17 Remington Fireball.

At those velocities, things like altitude, temperature, and barometric pressure can make a pretty significant difference. Not to mention the rifle to rifle variations.

Hodgdon doesn't show the .220 much love, huh? 4,400 FPS is doable with 40 grainers. I personally use 50 grain moly coated V-max's in front of 44.2 grs. H414 to keep it right at 4,000.

What are you shooting? I get 4,245 with 20 grainers from my 700 LVSF (22"). That using 23.0 grains H322

I tend to hot rod stuff, though. I was getting more than 3,900 FPS with 40 grain bullets from my 24" Howa .223 (nice rifle, sold it to fund the .220)

Nay. 3,700 is about it with 55/60 grain pills. The 6mm Rem. will eek out another 150 FPS.

5000fps? I could of sworn that while watching a show on the Military channel, they mentioned the muzzle velocity from a tank's muzzle (don't know what size/model), as being over 5,000fps with a sabot round.
