I live in Florida, my father in Montana. While there on a visit he wanted to give me a revolver & a .22 Rifle.
What a pain in the --- to legally transfer them. Both FL & MT have very good laws and if he were a FL resident and we were in FL I could have just taken possession, end of story. Of course because of the Federal Law I had to go FFL to FFL. No big deal it cost me some dollars & a couple hours.
What I find interesting is the way I read the law if my father would have died and left me the guns in his will I could have taken possession and flew them back on the plane with no issues.
I went the FFL route because it is the law and not worth losing my fire arm rights to save a few bucks. However I was told many different things when calling dealers to make the arrangements. I had one tell me that while I was right in my interpretation of the law, IT WAS NOT REALLY MENT TO STOP A FATHER FROM GIVING A SON A GUN!
I could imagine using that defense with the BATF.
Anyway my frustration lies with the over complication of the law that does not a thing to halt crime.
