Just curious which makes the grade for people here. I've got a New Single Six but I have my sights on both a S&W 617 and a Walther 22. If I bought a long gun, probably get a Ruger auto loader or bolt rimfire.

Handgun: S&W Model 617, 6 shot, 6 inch

Rifle: CZ 452 FS (Full Stock)

I have a Ruger Standard model 22 cal. autoloader pistol with 6" barrel and I shot 7 bullets thru the same hole at 10yds with it standing with no support.

The only way to go is with the S&W 617, period, end of story.
Oh, and the and the Ruger Super Six,
Oh, and the Ruger 22/45 semi-auto.
There, now, the only .22 rifle to have is the Marlin lever action.
Of course the Savage Mark II is the perfect bolt action.
And no collection is complete without a Ruger 10/22 rifle.

There, that wasn't so bad! You want the single best hand gun and the single best rifle! Now you have six! Next caliber?
:D

The tip-top best of my .22s is this 1978 High Standard Trophy, the first match pistol I ever bought. It now sports a Volquartsen barrel, Nill stocks, and Ultra Dot red dot sight, but I still shoot it occasionally with the original barrel.

Handgun is a tie between my TT/TH Model 18-4 4" K-frame with nice wood Hogues for pure fun. A tighter revolver has never been made.

vs.

Ruger 22/45 "Great Eight" 8-inch for those "durn, I can hit 12-ga. hulls at 50-yards from a rest!" kinda SHAZAM shots. Can't holster it, though....

Rifle?

Marlin 39A for pure fun

vs.

my 10/22 that is still Ruger because of the reciever, but everything else is Volquartsen.

CA-452. I love mine. It is like a laser for squirrels.
Lately I have been thinking about taking the scope off though so I can play around with the long range sight on it.

No question about the handgun, has to be the Model 41 Smith & Wesson

Rifle is a tough choice between the customized 10/22 or Winchester Model 52's

Pistol, my Mitchell Trophy II, currently set up with a NcStar 2X scope.

Kinda sorta long gun, My Savage Styker currently set up with a Simmons 3-9X scope. Thing will shoot 0.30" groups at 50 yrds all day long.

Hmmm ... well ......... love my Single Six ....... also love the 22/45.

With rifle ... my biggest and most used plinker is the trusty Marlin 60 but ... for sheer accuracy and ''old worlde'' quality ... my Mauser Oberndorfe is the tops (1920's manufacture) .. only bolt but .. built like a brick latrine! :p

Favorite .22's...

Handgun: Ruger 22/45

Rifles-
for accuracy: Marlin Model 780 bolt action
for plinking/fun: Ruger 10/22's...Synthetic stock with Burris 4x and another with a folding BC stock, Zephyr 2000 sights and muzzle brake.

Ruger 10/22. When I was younder, I would 200-300 rounds of .22 and stay out in the field all day. Life was good then...

in a wheelgun, the only choice would be a 4" colt diamondback...if you need current production, i guess i could settle for the smith 617 (i have a blued 6" M-17 myself)

my pistol choice would be between a high standard victor or a hammereli 280 in all three calibres (.22 short, .22lr and .32 s&w)

in a long gun i'm partial to...in semiauto, lever and bolt...the weatherby XXII, the marlin 39A and either the cz452 or cooper

My favorite .22 rifle is my Mossburg 44. My neighbor got it in the 30's when he was a kid. Also no serial number, I had to put one on it much later down the road.

It had a broken firing pin, rust on the barrel, and dents in the stock. After I fixed everything 2 of my sons used it for Junior NROTC rifle matches.

I still have it and shoot it alot.

So much cheap fun and great therapy too!!

Rifle is easy... 10/22.
Pistols are harder, I have had quite a few double duece handguns.
The most memorable ones...
A High Standard Survivor Pack.
A Beretta M70S Kit gun

The most used...a .22 conversion unit on one of my 1911's(shot 550 rounds out of it two days ago). A light weight officer's frame and alloy Ciener conversion unit make a dandy light kit gun.
Probably get a Marvel unit after I trick out my AK.

Milady has a 10/22, 22/45 and we are planning a Kadet conversion for her CZ in the future.
