My personal Favorites

I love the CZ 452 2E KZM, the best iron sights on a rimfire IMO!
The Ruger 10/22 has to be my second favorite rimfire(also my first gun)

IMHO the CZ 452 is a damn nice gun for the money.

Here are my favorites:
1) Best to shoot prone, kneeling, or from a bench: My CZ452 with 3-9x scope. 1.25" @ 100 yards with cheap Federal American Eagle.
2) Best for standing long range shots on ground squirrels (~150 yards): My Norinco .22lr that looks like a Mauser 98 carbine. Heavy stock that is wonderful at keeping the stock steady while standing.
3) Best for wasting ammo and having a ton of fun: Henry Golden Boy or Henry Lever Action. Waaay too much fun to shoot fast. Accuracy isn't bad either from what I've experienced.

I like my Calico M-100. Theres nothing like shoting a 100 rounds off without reloading. the only sucky part is loading a 100 rounds one by one.

My fave is a buddy's 10/22 that has been heavily modified that is just a gem to shoot. My 10/22 is just aching to go through the same transformation! :D

Thx GBG - will explore.

Yeah - odd ain't it?! All these years shooting and only really sorta ''aware'' of this gun's existence .... but never learned squat about it.

I shall attempt to remedy that appalling state of affairs!:p

Quarterboregunner I have 15 other comic boxes full, for some reason I haven't stoped collecting them.

P95Carry They are a fun gun there is also a pistol version of the gun and there is a pistol/rifle versions that come in 9mm also. they don't make them anymore so you will have to look around for them, but they are out there.

I'm not sure which current production .22s are made with peep sights. I suppose you could always get aftermarket sights or have sights done custom (I assume that some smiths could do that).

As for my favorite, I have had three .22lr rifles and I've only really liked one of them. I sold my 10/22 because it never really did it for me. I have a Remington 581 that is extremely accurate, but I find it boring (I just don't like it much, and the wood and finish is very basic). I love my Marlin 60- it is ammo sensitive and for a while I didn't like it (the ammo sensitivity plus the feeling I should have bought a 10/22, since everyone who had them seemed to like them, had me questioning my choice), but I wised up. It was my first gun, it is just plain fun, it is quite reliable with the right ammo, and it's scary accurate. I do want a lever .22 (maybe your best bet for a peep sight .22 is a Winchester 9422 with an aftermarket sight- though that isn't really a target gun).

Out of what is out there now the .22lr that most 'speaks' to me is the CZ 452 Lux. Great reputation (all around), well made, accurate, great finish, and beautiful stocks. I have to get one, and it would probably be a good place for you to start looking.

My favorite is an old pump action Winchester that was my grandfather's uncle's. My dad has it now. It's pretty worn out but i really like shooting it. I looked up the serial number one days and found that it was made in 1939. I wish I could have shot it when it was new.

Right now it would be my EAA biathalon basic, three weeks ago I was able to shoot several .3-.370" 5 shot groups at 50 yards with it. Best groups I have ever shot with any firearm in my life.

I mounted a simmons AO pro air scope on it with weaver rings.

The ammo it likes Wally World federal bulk pack $8.75 for 550 rounds.
I tried several brands of "target" ammo I had on hand on my last few outings. The wally world cheapo did the .3" groups.

The gun cost $229, the scope $119 from midway.

My second fav is my CZ 452 special (like the lux less expensive with a beech stock instead of walnut) It has fantastic Iron Tangent sights (distance and windage adjustible) and a front sight you can adjust to the ammo so the rear range settings work.

Third would be my custom 10/22.

Fourth my winchester 94/22 (blue with walnut)

I love .22lr rifles you can never have too many.

Actually I just fired my 52c winchester and I like it way better than my 77/22. I just shot a half inch group (would have been 1/4 if i didn't pull the 5th) shot it at 100 yards with wolf MT ammo. Shot a 1 and a half inch group at 100 with cheap federal ammo. Very awesome rifle

I like my 52C Winchester. Kind of heavy but for bench shooting, it is great. One hole groups at 25 yards shooting Eley Match EPS and cloverleaf groups at 40 yards.

I glue or tape 40 caliber blowgun paintballs to cheap white paper plates and shoot them at 40 yards. It is a lot of fun and easy to see your hits.

Also have a Winchester 75 and a Ruger 77/22. The Ruger shoots very good too and makes a great squirrel gun.

David.

My favorite...A Savage Mark II bolt action. A cheap little gun (paid less than 2 bills for it). Comes with target barrel with crown, 1 detacheable 5-shot clip, no sights, and a good looking laminated stock. Not the prettiest .22 out there, nor the most expensive, but for the money, I am impressed. Quite an accurate little rifle.

I'm torn between these two:
Ruger 10/22
Romanian 22 bolt action trainer

Both are really good

Having a 10/22 and adding aftermarket barrels triggers bedding stocks ect was fun but I don't think i'd ever own one agian. There are just such better rifles out there ;)

A Ruger 10/22 that my wife got me for Christmas long ago. It has a beautifullly figured walnut stock (unlike today's version) and shoots like a dream.

As I recall, it cost in the neighborhood of $50 new. :D

My first .22 was a 10/22 and I like it alot. But growing up my friend's dad had an old rifle that I was in love with. Eventually he pawned it and I never knew the make or model. All I knew was what it looked like. I finally found it at the gun show last October it is a Savage Model 6A.

After I talked the guy out of it for $90 when I would have easily paid the 125 asking price, I ran into a guy who said he collects the old rifles to sell the wood. He said the stock itself is worth $75. When I bought it it looked like the front sight was filed down. When I went to the range I found out this was correct because only .22 shorts would shoot POA. So now I am probably going to have to get another front sight so I can shoot lr without haveing to correct for it.

I love this gun.
