I have owned probably 60 bolt action rifles in my life and I am a shooter not a collector. Thought I would share one of my favorites and ask you to do the same. Sorry about the pics, they are for insurance purposes not for artistic dispaly.

Good Hunting!

hinton03,

I have got back into full stocked rifles myself. A favorite of mine is a ZB Brno 22F in 8-57.

What make of rifle caliber and specs. on yours?

Sweet rifle the Brno, a friend owned one in 7X57 when I was stationed in Germany in 1983.

The one picured comes out of the Remington custom shop; it is built on a Model 7 action and is chambered in 223 Remington. It shoot 3/4" 5 shot groups with my pet hand loads.

There is something about full stock carbines that make me want to hunt. My first was a Sako in 308 Winchester and at one time I had Steyer in 222 Remington.

Beautiful little Remington, hinton03. I'm also partial to full-length stocks and I think they look best in carbine length configurations and (sorry!), natural (non-laminated) stocks. One of my favorites is my Ruger International, chambered in .308 Winchester and wearing a Leupold 1X4 compact scope.
What power is your B&L scope?

Oh that is a tough call. These three are more accurate and more reliable than any of the others. Or maybe they are just Classics..

1. 1957 vintage Husqvarna 1600 with double set triggers. 30-06 weighs 6.75 pounds without a scope.

2. 1930 Vintage custom M-98 Mauser with thumbhole stock. 7x57mm, Douglas #5 barrel. Weighs a ton. I built this back in 1973 in highschool.

3. 1900 Oberndorf M/96 Swede Mauser. 6.5x55mm. This was a shooting club rifle. It has a F-ram rear sight.

How do you guys get your photos to be big and not thumbnails??

The scope is 4X compact; I could probably use more power but it looked good on the rifle and I use it as a varmit calling rig--it has taken the life of many a Coyote. The Steyer had a beautiful piece of wood on it. I guess I just go through phases; at one time I had a lot of very nicely stocked rifles, combonation guns and shotguns and got tired of feeling sick to my stomach every time I dinged one. In the 90's I migrated to functional lumber and plastic but I am starting to go back to figured walnut again, on shotguns at least.

I haven't seen a 98 with a thumbhole stock in 25 years; had a buddy that built one and it was a tack driver.

Savage99--I wish I had a pic of my Savage 99 Carbine to post. It was a birthday present for my wife from her father on her sixteenth birthday. A sixties vintage short barreled 250-3000 in 95% condition. It has a brass front sight and a brass follower in the internal magazine. Killed my forst Muley with that rifle and I still hunt with it.

Salvo-- that is a fine weapon, makes me miss mine. I know you have serious bucks tied up in that rifle.

When I was stationed in German in the early 80's the exchange rate was so good I was buying Sako's at the Rod & Gun Club for less than Rem 700's. I brought back 16 long guns from that tour.....sadly I don't have one left.

hinton03, it is a great rifle and so accurate! Back in the late 80's I traded for this rifle, the previous owner wanted a patio cover for his back yard, talk shifted to guns and he showed me this one and I fell in love with it, we traded straight across. I came up with the materials and donated my labor and we where both happy. Opportunities like that do not come along very often for me.

Sounds like you had a good deal going back then!

without having to think its a rem mohawk 600 222 re chambered for 5.56. would love to own one more to. i am in the market for one. just cant fined anyone that wants to sell. help
