I experimented for awhile on the whitetail and mule deer that come around here daily. Tried everything from tight-fitting street clothes to a camo poncho with a fleece camo balaclava.
Best combination was loose-fitting dark brown pants, oversized plaid wool shirt, black gloves, no hat, messy hair.
I stood out in the open like this, with my mouth closed and eyes squinted, and a doe walked right by me, about 20 feet away at the closest point. Once she caught my scent, she did the head-bobbing thing at me for a long time before she ran away.
Other than a blind, I haven't found anything that gets me closer to deer.
