I have a love affair with high quality holsters, and feel that all of my guns deserve at least one good holster to go with them. However, being left handed, and not always able to easily find something for them, I opted to check out my latest gun (a pre-B CZ75), to see what holster I had that might work for it out to the range. I quickly found that a Beretta 92FS holster from Mitch Rosen worked fine. I would have thought that the Beretta had a much fatter slide, etc, but other than being about a 1/4" too long, it fits rather snug. It will do fine until I save up for a "gun specific" scabbard for the CZ. I used to have a CZ many years ago, sold it and later sold the fine Kramer scabbard I had for it:cuss:. I will probably eventually get another. I often shove a Browning HP in some of my 1911 holsters, but have a few BHP specific holsters. Some shoulder holsters accomodate many guns (Bianchi X-15, etc), but there is nothing like a proper holster for a given gun. I hate nylon rigs, and use Kydex holsters sparingly with some guns, but for the most part, always appreciate a well made leather holster. Does anyone else use holsters designed for one gun that they have found to work well with another different make or model?

Many years ago I bought an El Paso Saddlery competition holster for a 4 inch Ruger Security Six which my current GP 100 fits into quite well. I also have a Don Hume paddle holster I got for a 3 inch SP 101 and my 3 inch Model 60 fits it just fine.

Going in it, and fitting it are two different things.

A fitted leather holster made for one gun will have high spots and tight spots on another model gun.
Or else it will just be loose all over.

In either event, finish wear will be accelerated over a holster made for the gun.

With that said, I do have a few holsters that are used with more then one gun.
But they are not hand-molded holsters fit to a specific model.

I think you answered your own question right there.

Sometimes I wonder if there is a vast conspiracy among the holster and gun makers to keep everything non-standardized ... but tossing in the price of a $80 custom holster to a new gun purchase isn't that bad, really.

I have a Cross Breed Super Tuck designed for the PPK and it fits my P-64 nicely. Probably not a big surprise but a bonus for a pistol that otherwise doesn't have any commercial options.

I have a leather askins style holster made by Blackhawk designed to fit a Sig Pro series pistol but it fits my FNP9 really well. Best part was it was on clearance for $25.

I should add that for my carry gun and for other guns I normally buy a decent custom holster or something like an MTAC, etc. I also make my own leather holsters too but I am not that good at it yet. I can make a functional holster but there's always something about the ones I make that I don't like. I've experimented with kydex also and had pretty good results.

I have a replica M7 tanker chest rig designed for my 1911 but my GLOCK17 fits, albeit snugly.

I've got a Smith & Wesson holster made for a K-Frame Smith that any medium frame revolver seems to fit quite well. Colt, Taurus, Dan Wesson, it doesn't matter.

A Charter Oak (I believe it is) pancake holster for a Glock that my Sigma fits perfectly, but that didn't surprise me. Same for a Master for an XD-9. The Sigma fits it also.

A Don Hume J.I.T. slide for a Karh 40 that fits my CZ-82 like it was made for it. Same holster for a Makarov fits a Bersa Firestorm 22. I ordered another J.I.T. for the Sigma and apparently clicked the wrong "Sigma" and got one for the smaller 380 Sigma. The SW9VE didn't fit, but a Colt Commander is about perfect.
