I think it is annoying to pocket carry a 15oz revolver when you can carry an 11 oz revolver.

i'm a new shooter trying to find a happy compromise between carry weight and size vs. shooting comfort, accuracy for my future ccw weapon. I have decided that of the carry options, i would like to pocket carry a small revolver.

i'm a big boy at 6'6" 350 pounds so im already carrying plenty of weight , but i dont want something that will be too light to be enjoyable to shoot at the range so that i can work on accuracy on follow up shots

NAA in .22 Mag with alternating solid Gold Dots and shot. When I carry it, it is always a 2nd back-up.

Re heavier guns, not really...

I often carry a heavier model. I am vaguely aware of it, but after many years, I have become use to it.

If I carry my wife's 642 and I wonder what I forgot.

I am willing to carry a little more weight, in favor of more power and penetration without sacrificing quick recovery for additional shots.

Revolver Pocket Carry Weight

I don't do IWB or OWB. Pocket carry only. I started with a 24 oz auto. I would have had to wear suspenders. That just didn't cut at all. 16oz is the heaviest I have found to be comfortable, ie. 642/42 etc.

I recently puchased a M&P 340 and shed a couple more ounces. Better yet.
I don't plan to go lighter with Scandium/Titanium. I like the stainless cylinder despite it's an ounce or so heavier.

When I tried OWB I could tolerate comfortably more weight without notice. Hence a small K Frame would probably be ok in that case.

Put some weight in your pocket and experiment.

For me, no question, my favorite pocket revolver is the S&W Model 342PD. In a thin Uncle Mike's pocket holster, it has rather little weight and bulk, so I can hardly feel it. The Centennial concealed hammer simplifies the MOA and, for that matter, keeps lint out of the action, a practical advantage in a pocket carry environment. Though rated for +P, I find it easier to shoot with standard pressure Federal Nyclad HP's, my preferred defensive .38 cartridge.

S&W640. Its a little heavier but I like the all stainless feel. Helps with the recoil as well. I keep it loaded with Speer 38+p.

Looks like to me it's going to have to be a s+w j frame. no other choice.:)

S&W 638 Bodyguard. Single action or double action, .38 +P, lightweight, and easy to conceal...what's not to like? ;)

Yup...I'm going to a fine resturant tonight...plan to pocket my P3AT w/Corbon DPX in my K&D holster. I really will forget I'm carrying that. Much larger and much heavier is the 642 w/reloads...fit for a pair of pleated dockers. I would imagine, however, that once I have to draw my weapon and actually have to fire it in self-defense, I would be wishing the weapon was a fighting revolver, e.g., Ruger GP100 or a Colt .45 ACP. I intend to get back into the discipline of carrying a battle revolver OWB. Hell, I live in the Northwest...usually cool, overcast and rainy...I have no excuse not to carry a real weapon other than laziness.

to those of you who pocket carry non air/ultra lite models, is it annoying or noticeably heavy to carry a 21 + oz revolver as opposed to a 15-17oz?

Nope, I carry it every day and don't feel it at all.

I have tried both...and carrying the heavier S&W M36 doesn't bother me as much as I thought it would.

I only shoot standard loads through that M36 so for me it is slightly easier to control than an Ultra-lite. Because of this, I practice with it MUCH more often and have gotten pretty dang good with it.

My Airlite J beat my hand to death, unless I put oversized rubber grips on it, and rubber is not light. Airweight, with smaller grips, are much better, for both concealment and shooting. The J spends most of it time in the safe; the smallest I usually carry is an SP101, and that includes pockets. The SP101 is my 24/7 gun. Someone mentioned a battle revolver up there. :) I try to do that most of the time myself, and I live on the Texas Gulf Coast. You can do it! :) Yep, my battle sixgun is in addition to the 24/7 gun.

I like the Nyclads too. Do you have a source for them that you might share?:) I know Federal no longer makes them.
