This question is for all you old west fans out there. What's your favorite single-action revolver and why? Is it because of looks, performance, price, or all three? And since I'm thinking about getting one, what do you recommend? I've been a big fan of Ruger's, but is there any other ones I should look at?

I love the Ruger Single six.I have three and they are all different.Ones an old three screw from '57,I got a .32 mag birds head which is my favorite and a super single six .22 convertable. All are very well made guns.

My choice...

for a "cowboy" SAA was a Ruger Bisley Vaquero in .357 magnum. Mine is the stainless steel version with a 5 1/2 inch barrel and faux ivory grips, which I plan to swap to Black Ebony when I find a pair. It was purchased for it's form, function, and beauty...as well as the caliber. I find that being able to shoot 38's at target and 357's for self defense, as well as it being cheaper than 45LC, it allows me to practice alot more.

Mine have both been talked about. I love my single six (anniversary model) and I love my .45colt 5 1/2 stainless Bisley (not vaquero).

Each is smooth and they just shoot well.

I have a Colt SAA (2nd Generation), 5 1/2" barrel in .357 magnum that is hard to beat for a general holster gun. I carry it a lot when hiking or riding horseback.

I also have a Ruger Blackhawk, 7 1/2" barrel in .45 Colt -- which can be loaded to shade a .44 Magnum. It's more of a specialized gun -- for deer hunting mostly -- but it's a joy to shoot.

Small frame Freedom Arms, stricly a performance thing for me.
Blackhawk was very nice, but it had one bad charge hole.

Mine are 2 consecutive ser # s/s Ruger Bisley Vaquero's in 45 Colt 5.5" barrel free spin pawl's, Ruger's Hunter laminate grip's and Wolff spring kits. Absolutely tough guns that will shoot just about any load level available.

Well, I would like to have a Colt SAA but I won't spend that kind of money on a single firearm. I have this Beretta Stampede (made by the now Beretta-owned Umberti division) and love it. In the world according to Fran, it's as good looking as a Colt and functions just great. And accurate as I can shoot it. Mine is in .357 magnum.

I posted one other photo in an earlier thread:

Ruger Bisley in .45

Heavy. Accurate. Super strong. Inexpensive. Best single action grip design for recoil(your opinion will vary).
Not much that it won't put a serious smack on if I do my part. The beauty of it is moderate velocity that delivers a well designed heavy bullet on target.

7 1/2" Super Blackhawk.
Like the bigger grips than the normal Super Blackhawks, long barrel is steady and shoots very well.

Mine may seem a bit odd to most folks, but after the Rugers and Smiths that I used to have, my favorite is a NMA Remington with a conversion to .45 Colt. I can;t handle the powder charges of the Ruger but 5.8 Grains of Tight Group under a 255 soft lead Keith style bullet Well lets just say I would not want to be on the wrong end of it.

Ditto LynnMassGuy, well nearly - blued this one ........ SBH, B-Square rail and budget red dot ... works pretty OK, tho most .44 mag now I do thru SRH.

In ''traditional'' terms ... noticed Cimarron was at SHOT Show - I know zilch about them but watched a vid of a very pretty 1872 Open Top Model.

I'll vote with PO2Hammer...make mine a FA, definite notch above the rest, of course one does pay extra for it. dvnv

My favorite single action revolvers are my two Old Model Rugers.
My 7.5" Blackhawk in .45 Colt,
and>
my 6.5" Super Single Six .22 convertable.

Why, they are all but indistructable. They will still be shooting when my wife plants me. .........unless she lets me take them with me to the grave :D .

Ruger. The single six is a fun gun, and the .44 Super Blackhawk is real fun to shoot.

I'd been an auto fan for years and have slowly worked my way into revolvers over the last 10 years or so (first one being a Colt Anaconda in 44 Mag). I only have experience with one SA revolver, and it is a stainless Ruger Vaquero in 357 mag that I found, used, the day my daughter was born. I've only shot it a few times, but loved it so much, that I've been thinking of purchasing a Colt SAA, and have been thinking of actually firing a black powder pistol that I've had for 15+ years......I just have to admit something......I like my firearms. :D

I love both my Uberti 4 3/4".45 and My New model Vaquero. The Uberti/Colt/Stampede's are a little lighter by 3.5 oz,and I can get a nicer action. The ruger balances almost the same(4 5/8"),and can carry 6 rnds. Also do not have to worry about putting a firing pin into my finger when slap cocking it.

I have several that I couldn't imagine parting with. Looking through the safe, there are nine single actions in residence, but a few are standouts.

The first is a USFA Flat Top Target, 4 3/4" barrel, chambered to .44 Special. This is actually the culmination of a lifetime of single action ownership and dreams. I saw an original Colt Flat Top in a book when I was a freshman in high school, and flat of lusted for one ever since. USFA was happy to scratch that itch.

After that, I would have to say that my limited edition Ruger Single Six would be another favorite. It is one of a limited run that Ruger did for a distributor back in the 80's. Looks identical to an original 3 screw Single Six, with the drift ajustable rear sight, but has NM lockwork. Been customized a mite too. All steel parts to replace aluminum, and a set of Eagle horn grips in a beautiful caramel color.

Another would be my .32 mag Vaquero on the Single Six frame. A gunsmith friend is bluing the entire gun, to get rid of the phony color case and barrel message, plus fitting a set of Tru-Ivory grips.

Wait, there is my Clements custom Bisquero! Hold on, what about my Freedom Arms 97 in .357 Mag? Ooh ooh, how about...........

Reining it in here :D

I have 2 single-actions: 50th year Single-Six, and a 'Sheriff's Model' glossy stainless .357 Vaquero. Like them both a lot, although that short-barrel Vaquero has A LOT of muzzle flash with hot .357 loads.

Where is the flame-thrower smiley when ya need it ? ? ?

Jonesing over a .45 Blackhawk in 5-1/2" barrel right now...
