I am buying a gun from an individual that is NOT an FFL, out of state. He will be shipping it to me (my local FFL) here in Texas.

He is under the impression that since he is NOT an FFL, that he cannot accept a faxed copy of the FFL and believes he needs an ink signed copy.

Does anyone know if this is the case? Can anyone cite the appropriate code? I certainly dont want anyone to risk any sort of trouble, but when he said that, it just seemed odd to me.

Thanks in advance!

He does not need any FFL at all. All he needs to do is verify that he is sending the firearm to an FFL. All he needs is the receiving FFL's number, which he can then verify on the ATF EzCheck site. The requirement for having to have a hard copy of an FFL applies only to FFL's.

There are many FFL dealers that will only ship to or accept shipment from a FFL dealer that sends an unfaxed copy of the FFL signed in red or blue ink. A FFL dealer puts his a$$ on the line from BATFE everytime he receives a shipment. He wants to be sure that a copy of an FFL has not been altered and faxed.

Bunk. As long as they have a name and address for the bound book ATF couldn't care less. Ask these guys to show you a copy of the FFL they get when they receive a shipment of firearms from a wholesaler.

Shipping, now that's another story.

This is helpful, I am just wondering if anyone has a link to the ATF regs that talk about this.

I am in a hurry to have a rifle shipped so I have it in time for a hunt and have time to get to the range before the hunt. As such....just want to cut down on processing/shipping time, but still play by all the rules.
