I haven't sold a gun in a while and I can't remember. If I am shipping a pistol to an FFL I know I need to retain a signed copy of his license for my records. Will a faxed copy work or do I need one signed in ink? I searched but can't find the answer anywhere...

You actually need to retain nothing of the sort. I've never been able to find any law saying otherwise. You can only ship to an ffl if you're shipping out of state, thats as far as it goes. FFL's do need to have license copies to ship.

should let you confirm the address you're mailing to belongs to a ffl if they provide you their license number.

Ahh, even more helpful. I know about and have used the verification link, but for some reason I always thought I needed to retain a copy. Thanks for informing me!

You'd think so if ffl's need to but I've been unable to find anything that says I need to. In fact there are several ffl's who don't want to provide their license to anyone but other ffl's in my experience.
