A woman shouldn't carry a gun for protection. It will just be taken away and used against her.

In a followup story, the owner and occupants of the coin laundry sued seventeen gun manufacturers, including the maker of the assailant's [sic] semi-automatic, high capacity weapon, for damages caused by gun violence.

Come on! Tell us what he said! :what:

Unfortunately, you're probably right. Since they can't sue the agent for defending herself, or the criminal, who has nothing, but the gun makers, oh, yeah! Big bucks time! Scumbags.....

    Good outcome:
    1. Fight back, shoot attacker
    2. dial 911 on borrowed cell phone
    3. wait for police and rescue to show up to arrest bad guy and patch him up.

    Not so good outcome:
    1. Submit, give bad guy money.
    2. Hope he onlt wants money instead of assulting you.
    3. dial 911 on borrowed cell phone
    4. wait for police and rescue to show up to investigate and patch you up.

I'm happy for her that it worked out. It does make you wonder why other Chicago citizens are not allowed the same right to defence.

    griz,

It makes me wonder as well. If this lady wasn't a LEO, criminal or politician, she wouldn't be armed. Being that the majority of people in Chicago aren't either one of those, they would've been raped, robbed and possibly killed.

Only in Chicago where the stupid laws make sure that the citizens can't defend themselves. Call the police? By the time they get there, it'll only be to file the victims report.

Thsi story really caught my eye as I am a resident of Illinois and a suburban neighbor of Chicago (live about 30+ miles NW). It said no charges were filed against the agent. What treally torques me about this is that it was ok for the agent to shoot the BG but if it would have been me or mrsmack we would be in jail as it is illegal to own or carry or shoot a weapon in Chicago. Nice that the agent was ok but imagine the story would have been like all the others on the nightly news if it were a regular joe that got attacked. mack

    Mack,

Those are my thoughts. If my significant other was the victim, she wouldn't have had the gun and would've been the victim. In that particular situation, she turned the perp into the victim.

Yeap - classic senario where when you can defend yourself - you do.

Seeing as her pleading and trying to fight off the man wasn't working.

    go figure.

Note to Chicago resident FBI agent: Commence remedial 'double-tab' training next firearms qualification cycle. Also institute concept training regarding 'stopping power'.

I'm glad the good guys are okay and the bad guy is in custody. However, the citizens of Chicago should go to town on the city government regarding why they are victims. They won't though. They are all loyal Democrats who would rather have a Daly in the Mayor's office.

And if anyone objects to that statement, prove me wrong.

Too bad commoners in Chicago are prohibited by law from defending their lives.

    Another article on this:

A 34-year-old, off-duty FBI agent shot and wounded a man who tried to rob her Sunday on the North Side. The agent was hurt in the scuffle, but her injuries were not considered life-threatening, officials said. The incident happened in the Edgewater area about noon in the 5600 block of North Wayne when the agent was about to enter a building, Chicago Police said. The offender approached her from behind, said, "This is a stickup," and hit her on the side of the face with a small black gun, police said. The agent identified herself as an FBI agent, and the two struggled, falling down stairs and onto the sidewalk, police said. The agent fired a shot into the man, hitting him in the shoulder, police said. He was taken to Advocate Illinois Masonic Medical Center. It's unclear if the would-be robber was shot with his own gun or the agent's. The FBI released few details. Agency spokesman Ross Rice said that "there could be criminal charges filed in state court, federal court or both. We'll see."

    There's also this:

    Principal faces gun charges

The principal of a South Side elementary school is being stripped of his position pending the outcome of an investigation into the discovery of dozens of allegedly unregistered guns in his home, officials said Sunday. John Lewis, 50, of the 9300 block of South Claremont, was charged with 61 counts of possessing unregistered firearms after the guns were found by authorities in his home over the weekend, Chicago Police said. Lewis is principal of Libby Elementary School at 53rd and Loomis. "He did have a valid FOID [firearm owner's identification] card, for one weapon," a police spokeswoman said. "We will be pulling him from the school; we'll be assigning an acting principal pending the outcome of the whole matter," said Chicago Public Schools spokesman Peter Cunningham. "No one can recall anything exactly like this." Libby has more than 800 students enrolled in pre-kindergarten through eighth grade, according to an education Web site.

    Agree.

I also think it's sickening that a non-LEO would have not had the firearms option legally available.

The FBI should fire her for being grossly incompetant. Getting herself in that fix to start with shows zero situational awarness. Shooting him and not killing him shows even more. What a joke.

There really is'nt a whole lot of info one way or the other regarding her situational awareness or lack thereof.

LEOS do not "shoot to kill,", we shoot to stop. As everyone is quick to point out, punishment is not within our job description.

Confirms why I don't visit Chicago. I know it can happen right here in Nashville, (and does quite often), but at least here I still have the right to have an effective tool for self defense. I wish my wife would make the move and get her permit.

I can't believe this happened in America. This is absolutely criminal. What makes me even more sick is the subtle reference to the children Mr. Lewis has charge over, as though his status as a gunowner makes him a dangerous person. Sickening.
