FBI: New York safest big city in 2005

Hey Dallas finally won something!!!

Well again these things show crime rates.

I feel perfectly safe in 90% of Dallas.

What you have in Dallas is most of this crime being committed in one particular area, and to one small group of people. Most Dallas residents don't even know this area exists, or if they do they only know it by name. The average Dallas citizen is, as much as I hate Dallas, perfectly safe.

Ft Worth (where I live) is 20 miles away and the crime rate is much much lower. Why is that?

Because this "war zone" is confined to one place and the City of Dallas will not do anything about that area for the (justified) fear of being called racist. What people don't realize is it's racist to leave things as they are, but we all know how much the left loves this kind of thing, because a population in fear is where its' power comes from.

Are you endorsing using a firearm to prevent property crime?

Snake, whether or not he is, I do not know. Personally, I have no problem with you killing someone who is about to say, burn your house down. (Even if it is empty.)

Philadelphia has CCW permits

And we are the #1 most dangerous out of the top 10 largest US cities.

The pols here have taken to blaming "the proliferation of easy-to-obtain handguns" for the high shooting/murder rate.

I believe that if you list the big cities with the highest rates of crime, and then list the poorest big cities, the two lists will closely align.

Philly is a very poor city, unlike NYC.

In NH, stopping an act of arson is one of the justified uses of lethal force, along with stopping the commission of a sexual assault or kidnapping.

I like that.

I was thinking exactly what MrTuffPaws said. They said, "New York City" and "Los Angeles". The didn't mention if this included The Valley, Watts, Rampart, Echo Park, The Bronx, Brooklyn, and Queens.

My hometown of Salt Lake itself has pretty low crime. But when you include Kearns, West Valley City, Magna, Taylorsville, etc, the numbers add up to a lot more.

Forget what stats I mentioned about Philly. I read a study yesterday that had Philly the #1 worst, the one linked on this site has Philly at #4, and another FBI survey has Philly at #6.

Lies, Damned Lies, and Statistics.

Arson is not a property crime--it is catagorized with violent crime. Property crime is the theft of property.

In other words: Are you willing to take a human life in exchange for your TV?

Look, kids, I live in Phoenix. While our overall crime rate is low, our property crime rate is one of the highest in the nation.

My truck has been broken into 8 times in the last 4 years! I've lost THOUSANDS of dollars worth of belongings, including TWO Colt Delta Elites and a SLR-95.

Am I pissed? Do I wish I could tie the sons-of-beaches to posts and filet them slowly?

Oh, dude. My dreams about these miscreants are way beyond NC-17.

The reality is, however, I'm just not going to kill a man(/woman /child) for stealing stuff from my truck.

And if YOU think YOU would kill a person for stealing property from you, well, you've clearly never killed a human being. Or truly thought through the process of taking life.

God have mercy on your soul when you take life for a possession. (And I mean that in the MOST christian way.)

How in the HELL is Dallas the second most dangerous city in the US? You sure could have fooled me. I'd feel safe walking around most of Dallas at night... can't say the same for LA or NY. Look at it this way. In Dallas, you can legally walk through the worst parts of town armed. Try that in NY...

Snake,

Actually, according to the Old T, it is ok to kill in defense of property. So, God WILL have mercy on my soul. However, unless we want this thread to go OT, we had best take up the scriptures in PMs.

I also read somewhere that Atlanta cops routinely underreport crime so the city will look better, when in fact crime rate is pretty high.

MOST. Problem is there is one part of Dallas I know you wouldn't walk around in the daytime, let alone the night. THAT is where all the crime is. The police are not even allowed to go there without backup on EVERY call.

And if YOU think YOU would kill a person for stealing property from you, well, you've clearly never killed a human being. Or truly thought through the process of taking life.

So, in Texas that is legal, and here's why.

The argument goes (and I agree with it) that if someone steals your horse/car/buggy you will be without transportation. If you have no transportation then you will not be able to work. If you cannot work you cannot feed your family. If you cannot feed your family then they starve. If they starve then they die.

Same with tools if you are a craftsman of some sort. Paint if you are an artist, Hammer if you are a carpenter, etc. Anything that keeps you from working to feed your family is a necessity of life, therefore it is a defense of life to protect what you need.

Hence, if you shoot someone for attempting to steal your car, you are shooting in self defense.

Whether or not that applies to YOU is a personal decision. BUT, if you are someone that cannot feed his falimy without whatever it is being stolen, then you may shoot in self defense with a clear conscience, even though it's only "property".

Take away a man's ability to feed his family and you have put his and his families life in danger, and you need to be prepared to surrender your life if you try that. Sounds perfectly reasonable to me and I dare any one to give a compelling reason why I should surrender my families life so that some scumbag thief can live.

May not apply to everyone, but if it applies to someone, that should be honored.

If you go to jail, you won't be able to feed your family, family will starve, family will die, etc. etc. You would be gambling with your own family's life if 12 people disagree with you. The whole judged by 12, carried by 6 doesn't really apply as you aren't in immediate danger so is it worth the risk?

I lived in NYC back in the 70's for about 6 months, near 11th and 51st what a dump I wanna puke when i see the ads with Pataki boasting about NYC/NY state
FWIW, the 70's were the absolute WORST time in NYC. Crime was way up, infrastructure was falling apart, the city almost went bankrupt, etc. It was Escape from New York come to life. It's a LOT better now, but that doesn't mean the stats are an accurate picture of life on the street.
