Fear of guns?

Wow, this is an inspirational story! I'm very impressed. Good job and good luck with that Galil:)

Great news! Congratulations.

As a side note, im not technically qualified to do a diagnosis yet (especially from over the 'net), but it sounds a lot like your father had major depression. Its quite common, and in many cases if left untreated can begin to have features that resemble schizophrenia. I'm NOT saying he was schizophrenic, i'm saying that he probably loved your grandmother so much that he just lost it. I'm sorry for his, and your, losses.

Yes he was severely ill.

I've got loads of documents here and his hospital visits date all the way before 93 up to about 2002.

He suffered from bipolar disorder, schizefrenia, had severe depression, mania, and psychotic features, suffered from posttraumatic disorder from child abuse, and borderline personality disorder.

I'm telling ya I don't agree with gun control of any kind, but it's very scary when someone with that many problems has access to any kind of weapon because you don't know how they will use it. I'm not saying that he was any less dangerous without a weapon because even without a gun he had a heavy steel baseball bat. I never found the beretta 92fs he ditched nor has the police department and I don't even know if it's worth reporting at this point since it's been almost 5 years since he threw it in the bushes while running from the police. I'm surprised he lived as long as he did with all the prescription drugs he took.

Knowing what you and your mother must have been through, you and her would be some of the rare instances where a fear of guns would be justified. I'm pretty impressed that you and your mother have both overcome that fear so well. Someone who's been through what you have could very easily become an anti and no one would question it.

I hope you and your mother's lives have turned for the better.
