The problem with the .30 Super Carry is that it has 9m.m. ballistics, so it will have 9m.m. recoil to go with it. You get 2 extra rounds, just as much recoil and have to pay more for it.

I would have dropped the velocity of the 100 grain load down to 1,000 to 1,050 or so out of a 3 inch barrel to get a small reduction in performance over the 9m.m. and a significant reduction in recoil.

Just my thoughts.

Same thoughts. 1100 or so (vs factory 1250). Speed and penetration over the .380. Could be a nice step in between .380 and 9mm. With capacity as high as today, I don't see as much point in an extra two rounds.

I have nothing for or against .30 Super Carry except that ammo makers must really think this round is going to take off in sales. There was and still is plenty on store shelves while .38 Spl and .357 Mag are still hard to find in any kind of a decent selection.

If measure 114 passes in Oregon the extra rounds won't make a difference, we will likely be limited to ten rounds.

Just seems like a skinnier 380 to me.

I found this on the Buffalo Bore sight. I've never tried them but I have used their Hardcasts in my 380s.

380 Auto +P Ammo
90 gr. Jacketed Hollow Point @ 1,200 fps M.E. / 288 ft lbs
20 Round Box

Also
380 Auto +P Ammo
100 gr. Hardcast F.N. @ 1,150 fps / M.E. 294 ft lbs
20 Round Box

I just can't get excited about the two extra rounds when I've already got 9mm and 380 acp covered, but good job on the video.

I have a 30 Super Carry Shield Plus, this is the round I carry in it (BTW mine shoots about 1.5-2" left at 7yds). I understand it's not for everyone, but for me I'm not into the 9mm and frankly I'm sick of EVERYTHING being 9mm, this gives me more capacity and similar ballistics in something interesting, something other than 9mm. I had the Shield Plus 9mm too and I think the 30SC recoils a little less, it's not much but I think it's a little less. It's pricier but let's face it, everything is more pricey than 9mm. It's a good carry gun with a very good trigger and anywhere from 14-17rds of ammo on tap. You can get them brand new for like $450. I like it a lot.

This round interests me, but...
If I'm going to get into a new round, I'm going 5.7.
The Ruger LC carbine has my attention, a long with their companion pistol.

The caliber does interest me but I want to see other firearm manufactures start making pistol chambered for it first. Right now there are only three pistols in this caliber available, S&W Shield EZ, Shield Plus, and the expensive Nighthawk 1911.

I did see where 30SC 100Gr FMJ ammo is available from Remington Ammunition. So practice ammo is available.

But is it on store shelves because they made so much or because nobody is buying it? How many people have .38 Specials vs .30 SC? probably 1,000 to 1 ratio or more.

Mine also shot to the left. The front sight was installed too far to the right. I moved it over and got it centered, and it's not as bad.

I think it would have been better to have a standard pressure loading at around 1000 fps, and a +P option at 1150, just like with 9mm.

The biggest shortfall I see is that there are no gun to take advantage of the slimmer magazine stack. Everything is made for either a single or double stack 9mm grip. If I could have Ruger LC30s with a grip size just wide enough to fit a 10 or 12 round double stack mag, I wouldn't be able to get my wallet out fast enough.

When a gun maker builds a pistol around the cartridge.. it maybe more interesting

Myself I like the idea .. I used to shoot 7.62 x25
and always like that cartridge….

Similar concept as the 327 Fed … smaller diameter, higher pressure round …

So you're a .40 fan then?

I ask myself what pistol I want .30 in that would be a must have and so far the only thing that gets me interested would be a single stack like the LC9, but slimmer, like the width of an LCP. 10 rd flush fit mags, 12 rd extended. I'll throw a grip sleeve on and call it good.

As you can see from my avatar, I’m a .30SC affectionado. Mine shoots poi/poa. The avatar is rotated 90deg right.
It’s a tack driver too.
Velocities are right with the OP’s tests. Factory ballistics are from a 5”bbl. the 3.6” bbl losses 70-90fps.
I really enjoy mine.
Cost of ammo has dropped considerably. Check out MidwayUSA ammo prices. 28cents for 100gr FMJ. 80cents for Federal 100gr HST.

Not even if a there were a 30 SC carbine?
Isn't that what .30 Carbine is supposed to be? :D

Tho, with the lack of any other common platform outside the M1, I can see the appeal to a modernized high velocity .32 rimless that was built for pistols first, carbines second.

There's already very little appeal to the .30 Super and the market has spoken and other than cheap 9mm for blasting, it doesn't care for a straight wall pistol caliber carbine. Only 5.7x28 seems to get any traction for a PCC.

Ammo prices are coming down to around 9mm level, at least online. I think ammo price and availability really hurt this platform from taking off. It's hard to convince someone to buy a pistol when the only ammo you have on the shelf is 20 round boxes for $30. Contrast that with the same pistol at the same price sitting next to it and plenty of cheaper ammo lying around.

A while back on another thread on here someone listed a place selling 30SC at good pices. It was Aim Surplus. New Federal and Remington 100 grain $14.95 per box of 50. I picked some up right away.

I want to see Kahr arms develop an all steel double stack in .30 super. Then I am in. Call it the Kahr K30d
