Federal Auto Match .22 ammo...Any experienced based opinions? Is it really any better than any other ammo in Semi-autos?

My Taurus PT-22 doesn't jam, but has light strikes. They're decreasing. Thought I'd try some ammo other than CCI and superX before I sent it back to Taurus.

Also, just bought a very nice mid-1960's hi standard auto .22. Haven't shot it yet, but I heard somewhere that they may not like the high velocity rounds. HAve no idea if it's true or not. Anyway, I believe this stuff is standard velo, so i thought I'd give it a try.

I have fired several 325 round boxes of Federal Auto Match through my Ruger 22/45. It is reliable - all rounds go bang, unlike Remington Golden Bullet bulk, which I stopped buying because of the multiple dud rounds per box. I find it more "smokey" than CCI Mini Mag. I buy the Auto Match when the local store is out of the cheaper Federal bulk or CCI Blazer.

On the box, Auto Match says 1200 fps velocity at muzzle. My box of CCI Mini Mag in 40 gr RN says 1235 fps. I think that standard velocity 40 gr RN is 1070 fps. So I don't think Auto Match is standard velocity.

Good to know. Not sure it's a valid recommendation (I'm talking about the Hi-velo in Hi-Standards warning)...doesn't seem like that much difference between the two types of rounds. Thanks Jim.

I have ran a bunch through a high standard. Exceptionally accurate, although that is mostly the gun. The auto match is all i buy anymore.:D

I have been using Federal Auto Match for sometime now and have found it to be decent reliable rimfire ammunition. Not quite as accurate or consistent as CCI or Wolf Match Target, but a cut above other bulk pack offerings.

I've been shooting pretty much nothing but auto-match for my past over-dozen range trips. Price isn't too bad at wallyworld, and it cycles in my kimber 1911 conversion kit better than any other ammo i've tried in it. It even cycles in my Jennings J-22! (didn't buy the jennings, it found me.) My nylon 66 also likes it, but it has pretty much cycled everything I've ever fed it without fail. I like it alot and will continue to buy it unless I discover anything even better in terms of price and performance.

(here's a box hanging out with my .22s :) )

I use Federal Automatch off and on when I can get it. Good stuff.

Yes, some of the old Hi Standard guns were prone to frame cracking, a diet of HV ammo only accelerates the process. Most guys who have them use CCI Standard Velocity ammo (myself included.) And Federal AM is not considered standard velocity.
BTW - Rimfirecentral has a HS forum with knowledgeable shooters and historians.

Good to know. So there IS something to that warning. Well, I'll probably steer clear of anything above standard velocity in my high standard. Still, I'll try it in my PT-22 and see if it improves anything. Thanks for the info, everyone.
