I have problems with the primer pockets on a bunch of 223 FC once fired cases, after the 2and reload the primer pockets are to big and new primer fall out.
Any body else have that problem with federal brass????

Not on the second reload, but somewhere around the 5 th.

Federal .223 brass has soft case heads, in my experience.

Funny someone should bring this up. The other night I was priming some 223 Federal brass and it felt like the primers were going in awfully easy, so I tried to push one in with my thumb and I could get it in half way. These cases have been reloaded before but I'm not sure how many times. This may have been only the 2nd or third time.

Due to the issue you bring up Mrcooper, I use federal 223 brass for reloads shot in my ARs when I don't want to chase brass.

Federal pistol brass? That's a different story, I rank it right under starline and top brass, dead even with speer cases. Good stuff.

Federal rifle brass is junk, I bought 30 Federal .308 cases to reload, I got 4 mild load's out of them and they were shot. I've got some remington cases that are going on 10 loads and doing fine, same goes for Winchester.

I won't buy Federal brass anymore, at least for rifles.

Redneck-

Wierd isn't it? IME remington pistol brass is garbage, but there rifle brass is pretty good, and federal's exactly opposite.:scrutiny:

I haven't had this problem since I load basically all LC in .223. But since Wolf primers are slightly oversized, you might want to try them in your Federal brass before you scrap it. Just a thought.

Never reloaded .223 but Federal pistol brass in .45 and .44 Mag work very well.

Try Wolf primers ... the are a weee bit oversize and seat with some effort in a "normal" size primer hole.

There are at least three 'Federal" headstamps around and loose primer pockets aren't the only issue. Some have a very shallow web above the headcase tempting premature blowouts.

You should probably read the sticky thread titled "Federal 223 Brass Explained" at this link
http://www.usrifleteams.com/forums/index.php?showforum=92

as usual, opinions vary but there are some experiences that seem to be common among the loaders who posted.

Myself, when I get some in a batch, I segregate them into piles of common headstamps and then section 3 or 4. So far, FC 05 and FC 07 have had standard .074 webs and proven just as good as LC brass - which Federal is also responsible for.

fed rifle brass is usually only good for a couple of loads. you might use wolf or rem primers after a couple of rounds. I don't buy the stuff anymore because of that same problem.

I have gotten six reloads out of Fed .300 WM brass. And so far 3-4 and counting with a bunch of .260 Federal brass.
What I dont like about federal brass is that I tend to get sticky bolts/flattened with loads that show no pressure signs when using RP or Lapua brass.

Lake City. It is basically U.S. military brass. If you size it properly and load it moderately for .223, it will last through several reloads.

Is this mainly a Fed .223 brass issue or a Fed anything rifle brass issue?

it is especially noticeable in 223. fc brass in other chamberings has a poor rep as well, and my past experience says to avoid it. however, i have a bunch of fc 243 brass on hand and decided to give it a go to see if fc has improved any in recent years. all the cases are new production, and i am working up a load w/ it. i am not done yet, but to this point, the brass is just fine. i expect to know more this weekend if the snow holds off (i need some more chrony data).
