I saw a deal on some Federal Champion 38 at Walmart and bit. It was 158 LRN and shot ok, not really very accurate out of a 642. I tumbled the brass and went to deprime with the Lee Universal decapper in the hand press and the brass would not fit the 38 spcl #1 shell holder. I used the 357 mag #2 and it worked, but I popped the decapping pin 3 times in 100 rounds.

I'm wondering if the Champion brass is worth having and if I need to make any other adjustments to my 38 loading other than using the 357 shell holder?

Similar experiences and solutions appreciated.

99% of the time that I run into that issue with 38spl in my lee #1 shellholder, it is magtech(cbc) brass. the case head is a hair too wide to fit the shellholder. cbc brass is also thicker which isnt favorable for cast bullets. I also ran into this problem with a lot of lc 556 brass in a lee #4 shellholder. Picked up a hornady shellholder and it has been smooth sailing ever since.

Thanks. The #2 worked fine. I think the 3 pops were only from not centering correctly. I thought it seemed more like case head thickness, but you are probably correct on the diameter.
