I was just looking at my local gun stores web-site and they said Federal HST & Hydra Shock are now LE Only.

That's bad news to me, I think it's one of the best SD ammo out there. I'm sure glad I bought 4 - 50 round boxes ea. of 9mm and .45 HST's.

I am going to rethink selling my sig P220 with 4, 50 round boxes of 230 gr. +P HST's for $650., I think I'll keep the package.

Remember, the LE-Only bullcrap is marketing, and no one has ever had trouble buying this mystical "LE" only ammo. Its some print that manufacturers throw on the side of the box, not an actual rule or law.

No, I'm afraid this time it's very, very different and it affects Ranger ammunition and Gold Dot LE (50 round) ammo too.

Unless you have a department letterhead you can't buy any ATK LE only ammunition.

If you don't believe me, then believe hotpig (owner of MAH supplies) he's out of EVERYTHING (for civilians).

I bought 3 boxes of HST 40 Saturday and 3 boxes of 357Sig Ranger from Jerry Kirkpatrick last week.

Just picked up 2 boxes of 50 rounds of HST 9mm 124g +P at the local gun store last week. $35/box of 50. This seems steep for this stuff, but reflects the times we live in. They had a stack of 20-30 boxes and it went pretty fast, but not as fast as you would think. That stash was there for a few weeks. I finally decided to grab some when it was almost gone.

I have seen many "LE Only" tag lines on ammo boxes over the years, but maybe a supply shortage has made them finally stick to it.

About the only place "LE only" seems to mean anything about are some on-line sites as far as I can tell. When my local shops have it, anyone can buy it.

5 boxes of .40s&w 180gr HST should be here tomorrow, according to FedEx tracking:)

I don't know if this rumor is true, but I do know that HST is extremely hard to come by these days. I placed an order a month ago with Streichers.com for 5 boxes of 9mm HST and 5 boxes of .40s&w HST. When I ordered the HST it was backordered, and I was told by a source here on THR that they were expecting a shipment "any day now." After a month went by I called Streichers to see what was going on and they told me why I haven't received my ammo yet. Turns out they have 700-900 orders for HST in front of me and that people who ordered them LAST July were just now getting their ammo! They said they weren't sure when their next large shipment was coming in because it is so hard to get ahold of, and they also said that the 147gr 9mm HST is by-far the hardest to get because the demand is so high.

I asked them to cancel my order and I ordered 5 boxes of the 180gr .40s&w from ammunitiontogo.com instead. So that will be here tomorrow, but I'd still like to find a few boxes of the 147gr 9mm for my P2000sk. However, I might just give up and buy some 50rd boxes of 124gr Gold Dots instead before they too become impossible to find.

Relax. You have to remember that ammunition manufacturers have contracts to fulfill. Military/Federal Government get first priority, Law Enforcement gets second priority, and civilians get whatever is left over. Because everyone has caused a panicked run on ammunition there is simply nothing left over for the civilians. Manufacturers are rationing it out in order to maintain their contracts. It stands to reason that you can’t get Federal LE ammunition anymore because the LEOs are having a hard time getting it- thus you get kicked down the priority chain. Once this panic cools off and demand simmers down you’ll be able to get your left overs again.

ugh am i missing something here? how fast are these things traveling? From the physics lessons I've had the only way hydrostatic shock can happen is with very fast ammunition like rifle speed.

If anyone can provide an on-line source for Winchester Ranger or Federal HST (and I'm not talking about 1 box on Gunbroker) then I'd like to see it, because I'm out and I need some.

When they say no more Hydrashok they probably just mean the LE 50rd boxes. I'm sure you'll still be able to find 20rd boxes of Hydrashoks and Gold Dots for 25 dollars.

Pay more for less than half the amount...genious.

Just an opion but i think this HST ammo might be just a touch over praised.
I've read reviews saying some of the rounds expanded great ! past heavy clothing . But then many out of the box didnt expand with the same results.
This is among the best ammo out there . But i still think other choices like
Gold Dot , Corbon DPX , and Winchester Ranger are just as good . It just seems this HST is more in demand right now .

Just picked up a box last night on the way home. They are available, but all ammo is in short supply. Reloading is the only way for me except SD rounds.

I see that no one could provide me with a link to on line HST or Ranger ammo sales.

Anyone???
