Federal 9mm 124-grain HST

Can someone please tell me what the difference is between these two?

From what I can tell, it's just the packaging, but the one in the plastic box is $1.20 a round while the one in the cardboard box is $0.80 a round. Am I missing something here? The plastic packaging is pretty, but it ain't that pretty.

Nope. Same stuff.

The 50 round boxes are supposed to be LEO only for availability, hence the cheaper price, if I recall correctly. But through the miracle of the internet we call get the deals.

Great ammo, HST is the best IMO

Ouch, that price is outrageous! I have purchased gobs of HST over the years as it's my go-to for all my 9mm other than for my carbines (bonded Sabers for that) and have never paid anywhere near that for a box of 50.

Look around and you'll find far more reasonable prices than that.

That's bloody well outrageous. Looking around I found this. Its all going to depend on how much you want\need at one time. GTdist.com typically has better prices on smaller quantities, but they're out right now. Always worth the while to check back. Target Sports CAN have deals. They had an overrun from a federal agency contract on .40 HST for $14.99\box so they're worth looking at too.

But yeah, same stuff, I guess the cute little plastic boxes tend to jack up the price...
Excellent load. My niece carries it in her G43 after we tested a few options.

I suspect you may be referring to the plain white box XM40HC they had for incredibly agreeable prices. I still have a few hundred rounds of that left (as well as some EFMJ that was also selling for an incredible price).

I'm always on the hunt for deals like that.

Actually it was in the full color boxes. I thought that was odd since most LE ammo I've seen\bought\been issued was in the good ole white no fills box. I'm surprised with the switch back to 9mm that boatloads of .40 hasn't been surplussed.

I have Federal 124gr HST in my 43 as I type this ...

AFAIK: The HSTs marked Tactical or LEO are +P. If not marked it's standard pressure.

That price is really high. I happened to be over there looking at the gel tests that @Buckeye63 referenced when I started looking at ammunition. I'm going to look elsewhere before the rebate expires. Thanks for the heads-up, THR.

The boxes I've seen have all been marked +P if it is. Honestly, from the testing, I don't see where the HST benefits from the small extra oomph that the +P gives it, and after my niece and I tested both in he G43, the standard pressure was a little softer shooting and more accurate. Nope, the 50 round boxes are either +p or not, and are marked accordingly.

P9HST1 = 124gr standard pressure
P9HST2 = 147gr standard pressure
P9HST3 = 124gr +P
P9HST4 = 147gr +P

That'll keep me set for carry ammo for a while.
