Hello - I am new to reloading, appreciate any help. I have some Federal large magnum pistol primers and longshot powder. (Magnums were only ones available to me at the time). Can I use those with longshot powder safely if I start with a light load? Also, I have cast some Lee 175 grain bullets, once shot brass. Appreciate the comments.

The use of magnum primers is usually due to using certain hard to light powders or the case uses a LOT of powder. Just start out low and watch for high pressure signs. You'll probably use less powder and won't reach a "book max".

I've used mag primers with Longshot for 10mm,180 gr and get good results, no ill effects. Do the usual thing we all do...start low, work-up slowly and observe.

Thanks a lot, very helpful. I see on the longshot page they also have data for 500 magnum which I also shoot. Working my way up to that cast and load. Again, thanks a lot!
