Hello, i'm new to reloading so bare with me.

I want to reload for a .270 WSM and with the powder suggested I would need a Magnum Primer for optimal ignition and stuff like that. My question is, when I look for a priming tool all I can find is Large rifle, small rifle, large pistol, small pistol. What about Magnum? Can I use magnums in my Large Rifle lee auto primer?

Yes.

Priming tools have (usually) size-specific parts for Small and Large. Most are completely agnostic to rifle vs pistol once you're in Large or Small diameter.

Magnum primers are the same size as the non-magnum base model.

I would not reload for anyone. Liability reasons.

Dont know if legal, i would guess yes, ok to give friend ammo. Rifle 18 or older.

Handgun 21. .??

I use the RCBS Universal, and Love it. Previously used the Old Style RCBS, spent a lot of time waiting on replacement parts from RCBS.

Good Luck

My suggestion would to learn how to reload yourself first. Finding a mentor at the local gun store or range will often work as most reloaders want to help a new reloader to learn the ropes safely. THEN help him learn to reload his own ammo tuned to HIS rifle, using your setup if necessary if he can't afford to get his own. This will relieve you of responsibility of making ammo for him that might be a problem. Also the most accurate load in your rifle probably will not be the most accurate load in his rifle. Just sayin.

I like the Lee auto prime. It's a hand held priming tool. They are cheap enough I have two. One set up for small primers and the other for large.

There are darn few people who's reloads I would trust in my rifle. These same people would use my reloads in their rifles. But being a High power service rifle shooters, you get to know how a guys ammo shoots after a few thousand rounds. If he didn't blow his rifle up then he probably won't blow yours up if you have to borrow some ammo.

There is nothing illegal about reloading for somebody else for no profit. I load for several friends and family members, just as I have no problem letting them shoot my guns with handloads. It's up to you and him if you feel your comfortable and experienced in making safe ammunition.

I agree, there is nothing illegal with reloading for him for no profit and you are a good friend for wanting to do this for him. BUT if he should shoot a reload and the rifle was to blow up or such and hurt him or kill him the heirs are within their rights to sue you (or for medical bills even if he did not die) for this even if it is not the fault of the ammo you made. You probably could never prove it was not your fault and you most likely would loose IMHO. THAT is why I gave the advise I did. If he HELPS you make the ammo start to finish or makes it himself he would be responsible and therefore you could not be sued if something bad happens when using the ammo. It is sad that we have to go to these extremes in today's world but that is the reality of it.

You may find standard large rifle primers will work. I used to own a 300 WSM and started with magnum primers. But a few years ago when components were hard to find I experimented with the same Winchester large rifle primers I used for everything else. There was no measurable difference in accuracy or velocity. Even after magnum primers became available I kept using the standard primers simply to avoid having to keep up with 2 different types.
