Very impressive pattern, is that top target a #1 buck load?

And were you testing these as possible new defensive loads?

If you check the targets (zoom in on your phone) you can probably read the writing. I labeled each one.

The headshot is one LE132-00 at 21 feet.

Yes, testing for defensive load/use. The #1 will be loaded as the round in the chamber and the first 4 out of the tube after I clean/lube the gun and reload it. I've been using the LE132-00 for that. I will continue to have the last two out of the tube (it holds 6) be Hornady TAP 8 pellet 00 lite mag (their wad technology is licensed from Federal, I believe, very nice as well). Slugs on the side saddle.

I didn't test between 21 feet and 25 yards because I cannot see any distance markers beyond 21' (if there are any, even) but I know it's 25 yards if you run the target all the way to the back.

Kinda surprised the 25 yard pattern wasn't tighter. Federal LE 127-00 out of my favorite 18" 870 will print 4" patterns all day long at that range.

That's just crazy. It's amazing what they have done vs regular old buckshot.

I haven't shot any #1 buck that would print that tight of a pattern out of an 18" barrel, but I have not tried many load/choke combinations, either. I would be very satisfied with that. But yes, I would expect a better pattern out of a 00 Buck load.

I've never found ANY barrel that would pattern any load of #1 buck worth a darn, and I've been looking since I first heard of its theoretical advantages in a hunter education class back in the 1970s. I know they're out there, but I've never owned one.

I'm more than happy with the pattern I posted.

14 out of 15 pellets high COM at 25 yards from a cylinder bore is most excellent IMO

I cant see the pics, warp. Says it was deleted or moved.

Anyway, I know Federal's Flite Control wad is just... magical. I use LE127-00 myself, and like Fred said... tight patterns at distances that buckshot was never designed for. Love the stuff.

That's irritating. I tried organizing my photos a little, apparently moving them into a folder changes the link?

It does change it.

But yeah, those patterns are great. I'm not a fan of 1B, but that seems to be one of the tightest 1B patterns I've seen. That 00 pattern is the shining example of why I use it, though.

The LE127 is very nice.

I just noticed a dyslexic moment/typo: On my target I meant to write LE132-00 for the headshot, not LE123.

I have LE132-00, LE127-00, LE132-1B, PD132-00, and Hornady TAP lite mag 8 pellet 00. My understanding is that they all use the same wad/cup technology (hornady licensed from federal) and they all pattern very, very well.

I am also positive that there is no difference between the LE and PD lines of ammunition, IE: LE132-00 is the same thing as PD132-00

What is the diff between 127 and 132?

Thank you!

Velocity/recoil. The 127 is a full power 2 3/4" rated at 1325 FPS, the 132 is low recoil and rated at 1145 FPS. Both are 9-00 pellets. The 1B is, to my knowledge, only currently available as 132 and is 15 pellets rated at 1100 FPS. The Hornady TAP light magnum is 8-00 pellets rated at 1,600 FPS. It's pretty hot.

So where are a few vendors selling Federal's LE132-1B in 5, 25, or 250 round quantities? I'm looking to pick up a case but can't find any from some usual sources I've checked. It's even more troublesome than trying to find Federal's LEB127LRS truball rifled slugs.

Can civilians order from there? I saw they carried both LE132-1B and LEB127LRS and I mocked an order to get shipping quotes and there is a page that insists you must be LEO only. The page for LEB127LRS says they only sell to LEO as well.

I tried getting that ammo too but was not successful. I am using the Winchester Ranger LE, # RA12008. It is 00 buck with 8 pellets and gives a very good tight pattern -3 inches at 30 feet. It is low recoil. I use it in my 18" barrel Ithaca 37 HD guns . About a week ago I shot a wild boar in my Farm potato patch at about 25 yards and gave a quick kill with a large 4" hole in his chest wall. Needless to say I am impressed with this ammo , and it is available to non LE .

I think I bought this Winchester LE ammo from "Lucky Gunner", which comes 25 in a box and the price was most reasonable for that type of ammo. Around the farm I use it frequently, hence I bought 5 boxes.

Lucky gunner will sell Federal LE ammo to you, I was just on their web site and they have 8 pellet 00 buck. They also have the Hornady and Win Ranger too.

Is there a website where I can poke around? And is that his exact user name so I can PM? Thanks! It's getting to be a headche trying to find this premium stuff.

Just type in "luckygunner.com" and the web site should come up. They will have several LE buckshot loads under shotgun ammo from various manufacturers. Hope this helps... Snoop

Like Fred, I have not gotten as good results with the #1 buck loads from my 18" Ithaca 37 guns nor the Remington 870 guns either. My smallest groups has always been with 00 buck.
