I know Cabelas is often criticized on many forums. Here’s a story that goes the other way. I ordered 2K small and 2K large CCI pistol primers at a time when orders over $100.00 got free shipping (A Christmas special). Cabelas first sent 2K small pistol primers. Charges were $20.00 for hazardous fee but no shipping charges. I just got the 2K large pistol primers with no shipping or hazardous shipping fee added! The prices were fair in the current market. ($29.99 per K)

I have been generally happy with them also. However my last trip there 2 weeks ago were not as fun. They told me that the primers were limited to 200 per person per day period! I called ahead and asked if they had 3K and then drove down there for 2 1/2 hrs only to find these limitations in the store in Maine.:fire: They at least could have told me before I went. Btw on the way home I stopped at a gunstore that was 60 miles closer and got all the primers I wanted for about the same price and NO limits. Where do you suppose I will get them next time?:D

I've been happy with the store in Boise. They have good customer service, and usually have product in stock.

Now if they'd quit asking for my phone number / zip code at checkout all would be good.

buda, tx sold me a couple thousand Tuesday. no limit, $33-35 per K. +tax.

2 months ago I went by and they wanted $5/box of 100 and limited you to 2 boxes.

I have never had a problem with them even if i had to send something back and could always get a real person to talk to one the phone if need be

I've been happy with the Boise store as well. Picked up 1k of CCI 450 and 2 lbs of BLC-2 two nights ago. They generally have primers now usually the powder you want and always have V-Max's in stock.

I usually don't even try our local reloading store (Cliff's) anymore since he tried charging me $6/100 for primers.

I find them to have the best prices for powder in the KC area. They are also the best stocked for reloading dies.

I'm happy with the store in Prairie du Chien. I feel the staff is honest with me, and the prices are usually comperable or better than what I can get locally. The store is fun for me to visit too. I'm like a kid in a candy store.

I've been happy with Cabelas when i lived in KC and now out in Boise
reloading supplies are competitively priced and usually in stock. With the frequent coupon deals they run and by having their credit card you can get some smoking deals if you time things right.

Clifs in Boise well.... he jacked his prices up stupid high and hasn't backtracked. Was in there the other day and his staff was still pushing the we won't see primers in any large quantity all year more price hikes coming buy it all now etc.

I also just found out today that the Kansas City store gives a 10% discount for active or retired military. Don't know if that's a national policy or not. Doesn't hurt to ask.

I like Cabelas for mail order. I use Cabelas and a few others and will continue using Cabelas. During the worst of the primers shortage they still took orders when most/all other stopped taking orders. God Bless them for that.

That's the only problem I have with Midway. They wouldn't let you put primers on back order, but only notify you when they arrived (always sold out before I got the e-mail and had time to respond). I finally gave up on that and put 5K each of SR, LP and SP on back order with Cabelas (this was in December). I have now received all except for large Pistol which they claim now should ship in about a week. Buying primers locally is not an option any longer. All of the shops I have checked with that have them locally are charging between $48 and $53 per 1K. By buying 5K at a time from Cabelas I still saved almost $50 (even with the Hazmat and shipping). I for one will continue to support Cabelas whenver possible even after the primer drought has ended.

Exactly - what parker51 said. Here in California I am much better off using mail order at least for the next year when - according to some - we will not be able to buy components - powder, primers, shells, and bullets by "Mail-Order" Will continue to use Cabelas.

maybe i'm drinking from the wrong bottle ? i used cabella's a few times. NEVER did i find them to have the best price on anything. about the only thing going for them might be availability, for certain items. i've called before immediately after receiving their "special" catalog of shooting supplies for "special" customers. upon calling, none of the stuff listed was available. the ammo is overpriced, and then you have to pay shipping, haz-mat, tax whatever. trying to buy locally is a better option as mentioned above.
and another thing, about their customer service. it sucks as far as i'm concerned. got stiffed really bad on the purchase of a black powder revlover kit. one of the items illustrated was illustrated badly, a powder flask, and excuse these poor old eyes for not picking that up, but this flask was a pos. i called immediately and the rep kept me on the line telling me how she uses it and its good and therefore i should keep it. fact is that wasn't the one i wanted. bottom line she wouldn't do anything for me. i bumped the complaint up to corporate, got the same run-around, oh the guy emphatized with me but was willing to split the difference in ordering a replacement flask. that was the last i heard of them. ironically about a month later i get an email asking me to rate this transaction and boy did i let them have it saying everything i just said here. they wouldn't publish it ! so all those reviews they post from suppossedly satisfied customers is alot of crap! they only publish those that don't offer criticism. there are MUCH better outfits than cabellas to do business with.

I'm not a big fan of Cabela's. I've been to four different stores. For reloading: poor selection and high prices. For clothing: poor quality non US made and high prices. The worst debacle is the bargain cave, where everything is only priced as high as other retail stores. If Cabela's were to go out of business it would not affect me in the least.

I have had several bad eaxperiances with them at the American Fork, Utah store. I have been disapponted when trying to sell them a Colt .22 conversion kit for a 45 1911. They told me they would be happy to purchase it from me if I brought it in. A two hour drive later I was told that they would only be interested if it was attached to the 1911. I was not told before hand that this was the case. I have called and had been told they had a RCBS Charge Master in stock only to find they did have them but they where on layaway. I no longer shop there. Their sales staff are lazy and make no effort what so ever to please their customers They even act put out when you ask them a question. Worst store of any kind I have shoped at. I will support local small businesses in the future.:cuss:

I purchase all of my buckshot and slugs (I got through a lot of them when attending training courses) through Cabela's. In the fall, they go on sale....and, if you watch your e-mail, you'll end up with a coupon good for $20 off a purchase of $100. So buy $100 worth, take $20, and have it delivered to the local store (no shipping). It smokes any price that Walmart can offer and I've yet to find anything competitive online or at a local gun shop.

Right now, Cabela's has Estate 9 pellet 00 buckshot, 25 rounds per box, on sale for $12.99. I have to pay AZ sales tax but no shipping.

Customer service in the Glendale Store is very good. I returned a Leoupold scope after it fogged over. No questions asked. I returned another variable scope once I discovered it really didn't go down to 1X power. No questions asked.
