Hey guys, need some ammo expertise here...

I found a deal where I can buy Federal Game Shok shotshells, 12 ga, 1oz., 7 1/2 shot loads for 2.99 a box. I've never shot this ammo before...good things? bad things?

I believe those are the promotional loads that come out yearly for dove hunters that go through cases of shells per dove that are shot. The shells generally have very soft shot and the cheapest components that can be put in a shell and still shoot.

They do shoot, but depending on what your use is for, is for you to decide if you want to buy them.

I buy them for my kid to use at the range when we throw our own clay simply because it's one more way to make that a cheap and enjoyable afternoon.

They are not very consistent so we don't hunt with them.

I guess that niether I nor the pheasants I have killed realized these loads aren't good enough.

They work great for me.

Same here.. granted, I miss a LOT of doves, but I don't for a second blame it on the ammo. :D

I guess the cheaper Federal ammo could have a bit to do with it, but I'm sure it's mostly just me missing.

I shot 21/25 on the Skeet Field with Remington STS Target loads, and the next round I shot 10/25 with a box of cheap Federal Promo Loads. I had pretty much the same results the next week after that on the Skeet Field.

I personally will pay an extra 2 dollars for much better shells.

Of course, YMMV.

I use those for pasture clays as well. I have noticed that they tend to be a bit dirtier than the good stuff. My 870's don't mind running a little dirty but cleaning takes a bit longer.
