Federal Syntech Ammo

I ran a couple of different of the Federal Syntech cartridges through my chronograph today, and I find that they are a bit on the hot side compared to some of my handloads. These are being targeted at USPSA shooters (especially the 150 gr Action Pistol rounds).

Anyway, enough talk, here is the data:

Federal Syntech 124 gr:

Stats - Average 1225.94 fps
Stats - Highest 1251.00 fps
Stats - Lowest 1209.00 fps
Stats - Ext. Spread 42.00 fps
Stats - Std. Dev 12.46 fps
Avg Power Factor 148.61

---

Federal Syntech Action Pistol 150 gr:

Stats - Average 954.76 fps
Stats - Highest 975.00 fps
Stats - Lowest 937.00 fps
Stats - Ext. Spread 38.00 fps
Stats - Std. Dev 10.52 fps
Avg Power Factor 141.19

I am sort of surprised at how high the Power Factor is considering that 9mm Minor Power Factor requirements for USPSA are at 125.

Out of my SIG P320 X5 with a Bar-Sto Match barrel, the 150 gr rounds were fairly decent from an accuracy perspective, but for some reason, my gun did not like the 124 gr rounds. Accuracy was not as good, and they seemed to shoot low compared to all of the other loads that I tested today.

Overall, in my opinion, in my gun, with my talent level, they were just sort of "meh". Not bad, but nothing great to write home about honestly.

The 150 gr were certainly superior to the 124 gr, but the handloads I was testing today with RMR bullets over Sport Pistol powder were superior in every way. Once again, YMMV.

Got to like those RMR bullets.
My initial tests of Sport Pistol seem promising. seems to be good stuff.
