Been shooting my Model 41 for 10 years. Ive shot Remington Target & CCI Standard Vel. Both are getting more difficult to find & prices going up.
A buddy suggested Federal Target (1200 fps). Price is more affordable but it's 130 fps faster than CCI . Would this ammo damage my Model 41?

Ive heard some people say that the Model 41 was designed for standard velocity ammo only. Both Remington target & CCI Standard Vel are on the slower end of the target ammo spectrum. I have no specific reason to believe its true but I want to make sure.

I found a fair deal (no shipping costs) at Midway & bought another batch of CCI SV. I think there are a few guys that shoot Aguila SV. If i run into them at the range I'll try a few to make sure they are OK before I order a batch. Thanks for the idea Ive heard of Aguila before but never thought it was decent ammo.

So will this ammo damage your Model 41?

No, it won't.

But the best place to ask these questions might be over to rimfire central

or over at the S&W Forum. I'm no expert but I've shot a lot of different stuff through my 41s.

Stories and tales over the years get confused as they make the rounds from person to person. The M41 was built as an entry level competition gun for bullseye. Bullseye usually uses standard velocity 22 ammo. So from this starting point mis-information flows. The M41 is not a weak gun.

What ammo works best in your gun is up to you to find out. 22s favor some loads and brands over others in general.

I went ahead i bought CCI SV. More expensive but my 41 is worth the extra care. Can't shoot it until March 11 so I'll just have to dust off my 44 magnum Ruger Bisley & my Marlin 1894!
