I have been shooting 40g out of my model 41 ever since you all told me to stop shooting Thunderbolts and move up to 40g to stop my jamming problems. (And it worked) I have been shooting Federal Target (blue box) Winchester Target and CCI Mini Mags.. I could hit a paper plate all day but no consistent groups.. (Just looked like a shotgun pattern) But give me my model 586 or 686 and I will shoot the center ragged all day (@ the same distance).. So I took the pistol to my local Smith (50 years in the business) and he suggested not to use the high velocity ammo. ( I thought 40g was 40g.. Evidently not!!!) He will clean the gun and run some Remington Target Ammo through it.. short of shooting Ealy or other mega $$$$ target ammo, Can you suggest any other 40g standard velocity ammo.. Thanks

To be honest I shoot everything through my Model 41 except thunderbolt. And at 7 yards, from a rest, you can cover all my groups with a nickel. Mine is an older model 41 and a friend has a newer version (one year old) now, I don’t know if this means anything but, my rifling is cut much, much, much deeper then his. His is so shallow that at first we thought S&W forgot to do it.

My friends new version also shoots tight groups but not as tight as mine. Like I told him it has nothing to do with the gun but rather the shooter. LOL

CCI standard velocity is great target ammo. Usually more reliable than Remington. I also like Winchester WXT standard velocity. Wolf match is good match grade ammo. The type marked "match" used to be very reasonable but now has got into the $4 a box of 50 cost which is still good for match grade ammo, the "match extra" is a bit more expensive.

My Browning doesn't like Federal match much so I don't shoot in my target pistol it but your gun may like it.
