feed issues w/new loads

OK, so I got all my press issues worked out and loaded up about 50 rnds of .45 LRN.

Shot some tonight and had a ton of feed issues. Most of the rounds wouldn't fully chamber. During the setup process I had this same issue and thought I'd fixed it.

I checked the rounds diameter against another 'known feeding round' and set the crimp until they matched. I also did some dry feeds with no problems.

Any ideas what might have happened? Is there another issue that might be causing this not-going-into-battery thing? (BTW, my OAL is OK too )

If "LRN" stands for "lead round nose," that could be the problem.

Some model 1911 feed ramps just plain don't like lead. My Kimber eats any- and everything, as did, years ago, one of my Colts; the other Colt, however, would accept semi-wadcutters only most of the time. A friend's identical Colt would accept round-nosed lead bullets, but not semi-wadcutters.

Another possibility with any round nose..

is the ogive of the bullet engaging the leade of the rifling.

Are there any marks on the edges of the bullets to indicate rubbing on the sides? Usually, it will be regularly spaced around the bullet where it fits into the case.

If that is the problem the bullets need to be seated a trifle deeper.

Just one other possibility. Check your sizing die to be sure it is full length resizing the cases.With a carbide die, it should be adjusted so that at the top of the ram travel, the bottom of the die is just shy of the shell plate by a couple mils. I have had this cause the problem you are describing.

if you don't have an inertial bullet puller, get one.

Sort of like an eraser for reloaders.
