Hello Guys,

As I have previously stated, I like off beat military /police type firearms. I keep what I buy and I shoot what I keep. My collection is for me and not for $$ later on.

My question is FEG Hi-Power (external extractor) VG-Excellent for $275 or Arcus 94 VG $225. These prices are from the Sarco website. (By the way, does anyone at Sarco know anything about handguns?)

I am just looking for another off-beat shooter to add to my collection. However, as I do shoot them, I am looking for the most reliable. I realize neither is a Hi-Power, but both have made some refinements over the original. (leaning towards the FEG, but feel the Arcus may be the better made pistol)

Thanks for your input,

Gunner

I've owned a couple of each, and I'd be hard put to choose between them. If you narrow it down to just quality and nothing else, I'd say the FEG probably has an edge. FEG guns have been very well made for a long time now -- excellent steel, good fit, and sometimes even good finish. The Arcus guns I've had were a little rougher, but they shot and functioned just fine, and that reshaped grip/beavertail sure did fix the High Power hammer-bite problem.

I have the FEG pkj-9hp clone of the Browning and it's pretty close to the original Browning HP.

My wife carries this particular Hi Power and loves it. It's accurate and has never had a reliability issue, not a single round.

The local gun/pawn has a pkj-9hp but someone decided to grind down the hammer and buggered it up, they want $329 for it. Just don't need another 9mm or I would make them an offer and switch out the buggered hammer.

I would look for one marked pkj-9hp. Good hunting!

If you into oddities I would look at MAG-98 at Century Arms International site.

I own a PJK-9-HP too. If I am not mistaken it is a copy of the original design Hi-Power, making it more similar to the P35/MK I than the MK II or MK III. It is not a licensed copy and therefore has minor specification differences from a BHP.
At one time the Argentine Military did have a License to manufacture Hi-Powers for the Argentine Military forces hence the name FM (Fabricaciones Militares) That license has long ago expired and the modern production also have minor spec differences from the BHP. I don't have the Technical Knowledge to tell the difference looking at them if it is a licensed or unlicensed production.

Here is an interesting Link to information about ARCUS Hi-Powers

I have a Charles Daly Hi-Power. These were assembled in the U.S. from FEG parts. I love the gun. It is by far the best value I've ever had. You cannot go wrong with the FEG.

That said, if you want a "real" HP, Royal Tiger Imports is advertising Israeli FN HPs for $379. I just saw them discussed for the first time this week on a Hi-Power board. That is a heck of a deal for a Belgian gun, that it has a military/defense provenance.

I've never done business with the company so I can't recommend them, it's just something I came across this week.

FEG has several versions of High Power clones, many have SW locking mechanism and not true HP. I have a FEG in true HP, best $150 I ever spent! Also have an ARCUS, well made but ugly. Had a FM licensed copy, machining is rough.
