I have a P9R that has trouble extracting the shell, when it jams the empty shell is still part way in the barrel.

I have removed the extractor, roll pin and spring and assurred they were clean and checked the tip that touches the shell and does not look to have any chips or damage.

This gun was purchased in 93 and fired several hundred rounds without problems, but lately its bad. Tried several different ammo (CCI, UMC, Winchester) and only the UMC worked Ok with two FTE.

I guess I will try to find a place to order a new extractor and spring since it seems to have trouble holding the shell when the bolt goes back, also it will cycle all ammo thru when I do by hand, never has a problem when I do that.

Any suggestions on what to try or maybe some info on where to buy parts??

anyone else have this problem? are these guns not reliable? If I can not fix by changing parts would this gun be worth sending to a gunsmith to be fixed?

I'd try cleaning/polishing the chamber a bit (I use motorcycle chrome polish) and if that doesn't do the trick, try to find a stronger spring for the extractor. Often for a test you can "shim" the spring with a cut off piece of 4-40 or 6-32 screw to increase its force and see it this is really the problem or not.

As for parts, I think they were imported by KBI in Harrisburg PA. Good luck. Might try Numrich: www.e-gunparts.com

Nothing really special about these extractor springs, anything strong enough that fits into the hole without binding should be OK.

Is this the sorta S&W 59 clone FEG pistol with the slide mounded hammer dropping safety?

Thanks for your help and suggestions, I really think the problem is that the extractor is not holding the shell as the slide goes back, I think I will try shimming the spring.

Thanks again and I will let you know how it goes.

Mine will fail to extract if the chamber isn't scrupously clean. About 250-400 rounds is all it'll generally go before cleaning is required. Otherwise mine is a good shooter, although I've decided I really don't like DA/SA guns so I rarely shoot it these days.

Good luck!
