Can a mod please change the title of this thread? It doesn't do anyone any good for someone reading the title to get the flatly incorrect idea that the Feinstein bill is a "confiscation bill".

Why? Confiscation is the end result of the bill that Feinstein has discussed previously and promised a couple of days ago to introduce in the next session of Congress.

Start with S.620 (109th Congress) introduced by Feinstein in 2005 and eliminate 2 words and you get this:

(v)(1) It shall be unlawful for a person to manufacture, transfer, or possess a semiautomatic assault weapon.
(2) Paragraph (1) shall not apply to the possession [strike]or transfer[/strike] of any semiautomatic assault weapon otherwise lawfully possessed under Federal law on the date of the enactment of this subsection.

That is why Feinstein said "Not retroactively, but prospectively." Feinstein would allow possession by current owners, but would ban transfers; you could keep your current ARs, but not sell them or buy more ("transfer"). Since ARs could not be transferred, they would presumably have to be turned over to the government when the owner died.

Without even going into the question of the constitutionality of immediate confiscation, it would be functionally impossible. A slow-motion confiscation, carried out over decades as owners died, would be functionally more manageable.

^ I was wondering this as well. Say you wanted to pass it down to a child.

Get a trust made up. Stick all Assault Rifles in the trust.

You don't transfer the ownership of the rifles to new people, you transfer the control of the trust.

*flash forward*

Next on Fox, Feinstein, now 96 y.o., introduces legislation to stop the Gun Trust Loopholes!

Quoted as saying "Gun Trust loopholes allow anyone to be in control of deadly barrel shrouds and shoulder things that go up, without passing any background checks! Think of the children!"...

"It will ban the sale, the transfer, the importation and the possession, not retroactively, but prospectively,"
That is eventual confiscation, just confiscation from one's heirs (but ultimately you're talking about tens of millions of weapons and hundreds of millions of magazines, if she's going for everything over 10 rounds). She has been wanting to do this for a long time.

Everyone needs to write & call their reps at both the state AND federal levels to reaffirm that we will not accept any encroachment upon our rights because of the evil acts of one deranged individual, as tragic and heart-wrenching as they are. Nevertheless, there is cause not to panic either. Dems only control one house of Congress, and with recent court victories and an overall dramatic shift in public opinion in favor of the 2A in the last decade, we are far better positioned to resist these nonsense "gun control" initiatives than we have ever been.

If anything does happen to materialize legislatively, it would be a perfect opportunity to rip a page from the antis' play book and sneak in a poison pill amendment into their proposed bill.

Let's see how much they'll want to ban AW's if it means killing the '86 MG ban, removing suppressors from the purview of the NFA, or enacting nationwide, shall-issue CCW.

Get ready....This will be the biggest push ever for gun control and the media is in full vigor behind the effort. Obama is going to put all of his effort into it. It will be much more than just a single bill to ban ARs. Obama is a master at using the ecomony and regulations to strangle businesses he doesn't like....remember coal? Guns will become a health care issue, etc., get ready.....

it would ban the prospective ownership NOT the owns currently OWNED.

No one is coming door to door to take your guns.
