I've got me a R&D. Is it recommended/necessary that i use a Belt Mountain Base Pin with it ? Pros ? Cons ? And, is the quick lock Clembert Pin necessary with the BM ?

Does the Clembert work with the factory Ruger base pin ?

Next question.
Can someone please give a brief history of the ROA model with the fixed sights ?

Naw, take it from ClemBert...ya don't need a quick release pin. I just made one up because I can't turn those darn pins without the use of a screwdriver or a shiny penny. I don't much feel like fumbling for a penny when I reload thus the "ClemBert Pin". All I did was purchase an extra Ruger factory base pin retaining pin and solder a washer in the slot then grind it down.

The Belt Mountain base pin is not necessary either. Just use your (bent) factory base pin with your new conversion cylinder....sorry...just had to give you a ribbing about your base pin...it was too hard to pass it by. I'm just kidding with ya! ;)

The Pros: Looks a little more refined than with the factory base pin when using the conversion cylinder.

The Cons: It costs money that could be spent on more powder. :)

R. L. Wilson's book, "Ruger and His Guns" says the fixed sight model was introduced in 1994. I suspect it was in response to demands for a traditionally fixed sighted revolver for use in Cowboy Action Shooting, but I cannot confirm that with a reference on hand in my library. As best I can determine, the 5.5 inch model was introduced in 2002.

Serioulsy tho. That is one clever idea ya had for the release pin.

"Do ya got a double rig for them smoke wagons ?"

Glad you asked; just for you:

...courtesy Big Ed at San Pedro Saddlery about 10 years ago.

Gonna give 'em some exercise at a match this Saturday.

I don't mind you asking about the Kirst conversion cylinders... I paid full new price for them about a year ago. It was in the neighborhood of $270 each. Yes, way too expensive, but I have 6 ROAs I can use them in, so it was cheaper than buying 6 other .45 Colt revolvers. How is that for rationalization! I got the Kirsts because a gunsmith friend said one firing pin would be less trouble than 6 firing pins. I don't know if that is right or not, but they work fine. And I figure I can get most of the investment back someday.

A guy has to have a few toys, and they were cheaper than a bass boat or golf clubs.

Again..one worth framin and hangin.
Far more fun to wear and shoot tho.
That is one impresssive rig J-Bar.
Looks by that buckle that you do some impressive shootin too ;)
I think yer "rationalisation" makes perfect sense :D
I was jist checkin the Kirsts out and found 'em for $315.00
I also found some R&D's for $255. Both stainless prices tho.
I think i'll get me an R&D now and then i'll have no choice but to buy a SS 5.5'er fixed sight ROA.
How's that for 'rationalisation' ?:D
I also think i'll do some research and get geared up to make my own rig(s).
I allready have plenty cow hide so the biggest investment is done.
Probaly start out with simple cross draw to git to learn the ropes.
I still have all my checkerin and stock carvin tools too so they'll come in handy.
