I have a buy pending with a guy in Arizona. He wants my FFL to send him a copy of their license and he'll ship the pistol to them with a copy of his curio and relic license. Is this legal? I thought modern pistols had to be transferred by a FFL01. It's for a CZ 75

1) His C&R is irrevelant in this case.
2) The receiving FFL does the transfer, so if you are buying, you send him a copy of your FFL's FFL.

The seller does not have to be an FFL or send through an FFL, he only has to send to your FFL.

But, as hotpig mentioned, there are a few FFLs who won't receive a gun from anyone but another FFL.

Most, though, just require that the seller include a photocopy of his driver's license so that they can log it into their books. A few will also want the seller to include a signed statement saying that it is his gun he is sending to Dealer X for transfer.

Make sure the seller does include a copy of your name and address so that the dealer will know who this goes to when it arrives.

Spoke to my local gun shop and the answer is no. No unlicensed transfers to FFL in California.

To everyone that answered thank you!

Not suprised. Had the same thing happen with a transfer to a fellow in WA. His FFL wouldnt accept a shipment from me to him. Had to be from one FFL to another. I think it's BS. But hey, if you want the gun you got to do as the FFL says or find another.

My FFL is top notch. He only charges me $15 for transfers. :D
