i didnt realize it was a big difference for me. i took my new cz shadow 2 for it's 2nd range trip. it didnt group as well as i thought it should have. i painted the fiber optic dot over. after adjusting the sight for elevation and drifiting the sight a little., plain black grouped much better. i also blacked out my xdm 5.25 which i shoot the most but didnt group as well compared to my other guns and it grouped much nicer. 10 yrds offhand 147 gr reloads.

take that astigmatism.

although for quickly getting on target i would prefer the fiberoptic if I'm shooting big. the paint easily comes off easily when cleaning the gun.

1st 10 yrds shadow 2 20 or 24 rds

2nd 10 yds xdm 5.25 20 or 24 rds

3rd my 1st 10 yrd targets ever with the shadow 2 on its first range trip fiber optic and sight not adjusted.

I don't care for a fiber optic on a handgun. I find most too large for my tastes.

I really like one on a clay shotgun, though.

Not surprised that the plain black grouped better for you, most "bulls-eye" type guns with iron sights still run plain black sights.

Add a time component, multiple targets and the FOs come into their own. My "game" guns for IDPA run FOs, both Les Baer and Dawson Precision.

Likewise here.
I shoot better with solid sights, preferably with a thinner front sight or a line up the middle of it.
I prefer night-sights or, failing that, fiber optics or 3-dot, for a carry gun, set to put the dot on POI. Less accurate, but enough for SD range and much quicker to acquire.

I just got my first pistol with fiber optic sights back a couple months ago. Like someone said I liked them fine on the sales floor. Nice, bright, easy to see and get on target. I like them ok shooting, but I do not find they are any better than anything else. Any difference in accuracy I have is likely due to the fact that I think the pistol is more accurate, not because the sights are any better.

I like a fiber optic front sight, with a plain black rear.

My favorites are Dawson Precision and Wilson Combat because the front blades are nice and inky black around the fiber optic, so I can use the top of the front sight for more precise shooting.

I like small 3 dot or thin black sights for target pistols.

I like FO on SD guns. My favorite SD sight is tru-glo tfo all green 24hr sights with tritium and fiber optic in one. My eyes pick them up very quick day or night. Theyre large dots so theyre not target sights by no means but I shoot well with them.

I also prefer tritium fiber optic sights on my self defense guns. My old eyes pick them up quickly and they are accurate enough to take out bad guys at 100 feet. Not good if you are a bullseye shooter for SD day or night they work well. I did have one problem with my TFOs, I tried to take a shot at three coyotes one night at 50 yards, all I could see was nine green dots with my flashlight. I picked five dots and fired, Didn't hit them but I never saw them again for six months!
