My apologies to the OP for getting this thread derailed about other stores. Since this thread is about Field and Stream and since it is close to me, I'll have to check it out sometime. I might actually like it.

Dogtown tom; you really seem to have an agenda with Dick's. Please don't let my indifference to big box chain stores making business decisions (in what was a very volatile political climate in Jan) get in the way of your hate. Carry on. I'm not defending them one bit, but I'm not judging them either.

In that "volatile political time" Dick's chose to side with the anti gunners and made the decision to pull certain products and cancel orders. They chose a side then and because of that, I will not support Dick's regardless of what they call their store.

I had no problem with Dicks taking the ARs off the rack after Sandy Hook. It was a business decision for them. Dicks is a sporting goods store that happens to sell firearms and ammunition. It was not that long ago that they didn't even stock any ARs until they decided the Remingtons were "sporting rifles". Then the complaint was they didn't carry ARs.

What I have a problem with is taking advantage of the market on the selling price of a product when supplies are limited (but essentially stable wholesale) and several gun shops in my area will never see my face or my money again. Dicks did not do that.

I will continue shopping there when it seems appropriate for the product I am looking for. I don't particularly care if they bring back ARs or not. Lots of other stores sell ARs and the racks are full these days. But, would I prefer they sell ARs? Yes I would prefer they do, but don't care either way.

Which is worse, selling a product for a high price because the demand is high....or taking someone's money for a product, keeping it 2 months, and then telling them "we have your gun but we're not selling it to you because of polical reasons". They both stink but the latter is far worse customer service in my opinion.
