I just purchased the PT145 Taurus...I was hoping someone could tell me exactly how the field strip it and reassemble. This is my first auto..thanks for the help and don't laugh..
Yes, read the manual. But when you put it back together, make sure the barrel is all the way forward when the slide is locked back. This way the takedown lever will engage the barrel and lock it. Before you release the slide stop, make sure the barrel is engaged by the takedown lever. Overall its easy, but the takedown lever can be a little stiff and hard to get out at first.
 clear the firearm
 lock the slide back
double check to make sure the firarm is clear
triple check to make sure the firarm is clear
turn the lever on the detent pin 90 degrees clockwise (it is the lever in front of the slide lock)
 pull the pin out.
check again to make sure the chamber is empty!
let the slide down and dryfire
pull the slide off the frame.
 remove recoil spring
 remove barrel
