Well, its really late and this story is a bit embarassing.

I'm out in the middle of nowhere right now watching my buddies farm when the dog starts goin nuts.

A little background: He's been having some coyotes messing with the animals alot and I know from hunting this area that there are also mountain lions.

I'm carrying a S&W M&P 40c with crimson trace and step outside to see whats going on. It's nearly pitch black but with the little bit of light there is, I see 2 eyes charging in my direction. I draw that pistol almost instanly and the laser turns on and I'm sighted in right on a..............barn cat.

I know this may sound rediculous, but I've never drawn with my heart pounding. So whats the point of this? It gave me a new appreciation to how well a gun natrually points for ya. I think the smith is great and the crimson trace is pretty darn nice when its dark.

No cats were harmed!

When I go out walkin my trail on my property sometimes, every now and then a stupid grouse will thrash its wings and stir up right out in front of me and scare the livin crap out of me. I know what you mean about having your pistol drawn with the quickness. First time it happenned I thought I was gonna have to go home and change my breifs, LOL

I don't ever go out walking my property without a pistol or a rifle, my property is an animal sanctuary for: deer, moose, bear, wildcats, racoons, coyotes, badgers, gophers, rabbits, turkeys, squirrels, chipmunks, porcupines, hedgehogs, etc...

It's good to have confidence in your firearm. I too had a run-in with an angry cat a few years ago but I kind of went into the situation knowing what might happen, so I can't say I was surprised (tom cat with a history of attacking people).

But I can say my K9 is at the very least rated for cat.

i never leave the front door without at least my taurus 38, and i have had a pretty bad coyote infestation here myself...****ers killed my cat:fire: now im less hesitant about killing them (regardless of how far away they are) let 'em live and they reproduce lol. but more on the topic i find my best/most natural pointing pistol is my ruger p95pr... better than my 1911 or glock or any of my others for that matter... sadly:( always good to know which of your guns points the best...even though sometime you might be surprised which LOL

I've been walking my dog and a large wild turkey flushed right next to me. To be honest, if it had of been something dangerous and I would have had my pistol with me at the time, I don't think I would have had the time to pull it as all I was thinking at the time was ...holy crap, ***, and was jumping about 10 feet. I think it would take a lot of training and practice to be able to draw and shoot quickly when you've had the crap scared out of you!

i've always found a weapon mounted light more useful than a laser, but i'm glad your found that the M&P points well for you.

i've found that a hand held light is also invaluable when out at night too

I do love a weapon light but haven't got one for this yet. I'm hoping that more lights come on to the market for the compacts.

These situations just make you laugh afterwards though, don't they. On a more serious note could you imagine the adrenaline of someone kicking in your door or an actual dangerous animal come after you. That whole story just made me appreciate good ergonomics of a pistol.
