I had 1 Wyoming tag and two antlerless SD deertags this year. Filled all three. Shot a small whitetail buck at 128 yards in the Wyoming side of the Black Hills and two antlerless plains mulies in South Dakota. Lots and lots of walking! A very long drag in Wy. Ufda! Long shots in SD. Deer #1 ranged as 288 yards out and deer #2 ranged 334 yards. Gun was a Browning A-Bolt in .300 WSM and it dropped all of them in their tracks. Handloaded Hornady 165 grain SST's with a muzzle velocity of 3,180 fps that grouped 1.2" at 100 yards. Fantastic terminal performance!
In 38 years of hunting, this was the first time I actually heard a bullet strike the target animal. Werid "thuh-whop" sound.

Some might say the .300 WSM is too much for deer, but a 300+ yard point blank range with that kind of power downrange is very nice to have!

Bartkowski,

I have a pic of deer in the truck, but it is too big for the attachment limits. I will try to reduce the size and re-attempt attaching again.

Actually, the 334 yard shot was not all that difficult. I had time to sit and get my breathing under control. Shot was taken at my leisure with a sling from a kneeling position, which I find one of the easiest and most stable for me. My A-Bolt has a slightly less than 4 lb trigger and a muzzle brake, so that helps, too.
Loud sucker, tho.

Good shootin'! Yeah, the magnums are nice to have out west. I made a 300+ yard shot out in New Mexico one year across a small canyon. Just held my 7 mag on his shoulder. Great PBR on that rifle. I like my shooting stix for that sort of thing now.

Yet to see anything here, too danged much hot weather. I'm going duck hunting in the morning, front is supposed to blow in right at sun up. Hoping it stirs something up and/or brings down some birds. We don't have a lot of birds down here, yet. I'll try deer hunting maybe Friday or Sunday once the wind calms down a bit.

We do need some pix. :D

In the two attached photos, there are seven antlerless carcasses in the truck bed. At the time, though we had hunted 1-1/2 days, we still needed 3 deer to tag-out. 24 hours later, we had two more antlerless and one 3x4 Mule Deer buck which filled all ten tags (two per person).

Due to lack of foresight, short battery life drastically limited my photo count!
