Filler for dummy rounds?

Hi all,
I have to make up a few dummy rounds, no primer or propellant just a seated bullet in a case. I've got to figure out a cycling problem in a Marlin 1894 .32-20 lever gun I just bought.
Given that its going to be run through a tubular magazine probably many times, I figured on top of a heavy crimp I'm going to need a compressed filler as well, something granular and reasonably hard, around the weight of smokeless that has big enough grains not to fit through a flash hole, and won't break into fragments that will. Nothing mineral or metal that would grit or jam up the action if any did make it through the flash hole,
The best thing I can come up with is white rice.
Anybody have any ideas or experience to lend?
Many thanks.

Have we found a good use for quinoa?🤣🤣
Rice or oatmeal is where my head goes.

Buy a bulk pack mechanical pencils. Pull the erasers from them, trim them to fit in diameter and height. Glue into the primer pocket. Will give any firing pin a soft spot to hit against. I have also made dummy primers from a heavy glue filled in the primer pocket. Use a section of paper clip to partially plug the flash hole and give something for the glue to fight against. Any section of paper clip you can't get out, cut off and stuff inside the dummy case.

If you need something that is incompressible to keep the bullet from setting back, you’ve found your problem.

I always just have air inside my dummy rounds.

The weight of the powder charge is insignificant and testing with something incompressible then switching to a powder charge later would be less than useful as well.

I dry fired hundreds of thousands of times with my 44mag, 45colt, 38 spcl, and 357mag dummy rounds when I was cowboy action shooting - nothing but air inside of them. No bullet set back. Much ado about nuthin’ here.

Try seating a Cabela or any fiberous lubed blackpowder revolver wad before adding any inert material. It won't hurt the firing pin. The fit should be relatively tight so nothing leaks. I hope you figure out your issue. Happy New Year.
