Filling 124gr 9mm hollow point with lead shot and wax

3" Turkey loads? I'm not a hunting expert XD I know I've just seen 3" lead birdshot around under some name that wasn't marketed as "target loads".

Maybe, still wish I could make these things into a glaser imitation.

It would also be fun to try to combine a piston effect with the hydraulic and reverse granular impact, but then again I think a piston would only work against a hard target.

I will test this homemade glaser at some point

After further research I am seeing that wax mimicks the hornady polymer tip effect to help expansion, but will this be enough to make a hollowpoint created for practice into one suitable for hunting or expansion?

My gut feeling is no.

Target bullets aren't designed with any expansion need in mind. The lead hardness is of no concern and may vary as will jacket thickness. Your modified bullet might expand but it could just as easily break apart or stay together like a FMJ.

"Target Hollow Points" are not designed for expansion. The hollow point is to shift the center of gravity/the weight rearward to aid accuracy...

Thanks guys I know. Breaking apart or expanding would be great.

I will have to test it out some time.

Those are copper plated bullets, meaning that the inside of the hollowpoint is also plated. It's going to take some serious pressure inside that cavity to expand the bullet. I'm not saying it can't be done, but it's not the same as a cup and core hollowpoint bullet, where you have exposed lead that expands easily.

If it were me, I'd just make some up and test them myself to see what works and what doesn't. I'm one of those "do or die" types, and before I'd ever post anything about it on the internet, I would have already tried it out and then asked specific questions to solve problems encountered, and/or post positive results on successes.

Hope this helps.

Fred

PS: Inserting a primer backwards into the cavity doesn't produce the desired results. At least it didn't for me way back when............

Thanks Fred,

If I ever put a primer in there they'd try and send me to the Gulag, very dangerous for public safety obviously :barf:

Ya it would be tough for them to expand. I agree with you but I figured somehow had to have more knowledge or even have tried it, so it's good to have an idea of what I'm getting in to, it's just been a really busy time.

Oh well I will post my results if I ever give these a go.

I have heard of people sticking a primer in the hollow tip. I am not sure if there is any merit to it though. Might possibly be illegal. Idk.

Not only 'people' but at least one company did it also. Not sure if they have a charge behind the primer, but IIRC it did.

Found these last year, factory made.
