Some of you may remember a previous thread of mine, where I tried out some FAL's at the local toy store, and was disappointed. Well, I was somewhat mistaken. After going back and looking again several times, not all of the rifles were FAL's, but another type, I think GTR rings a bell, anyway, they were very similar and I got them confused.

I was able to find an FAL that I liked the build quality and appearance, even though it is a Century (the object of much ridicule in my other thread). The receiver is milled, and the gun looks great. I can't wait to shoot it. The ergonomics aren't that bad at all, I just don't like the feel of looking down the iron sights as much as my AR15. I will probably have to get another cover with a scope mount to have a better "sighting" experience.

Anyway, I thought you might enjoy some pictures of it, and others.

It's a metric rifle, and I was able to pick up mags for $15/piece, which is nice.:)

The FAL is a nice addition to my stable, and at $600, I couldn't walk by it anymore without having it.
I particularly like the charge handle in comparison to the AR's that I own.

I came across this clipping from 1989, which fully validates and justifies my recent 'assault rifle' purchases. What a bunch of commies those dems are.

I picked up some .50 BMG armor piercing tracer rounds for $3/pop. I only bought 10, in anticipation of my .50 FAR Bohica upper, that I can't wait to get in December. I don't know what I was thinking, at that price I should've picked up all that they had.:(

You will like it. Even the worst ones can easily be made reliable with some work. I just went up to the hills to shoot 60 rounds of OFV. wow, that is pretty crappy ammo. The FALs handled it just fine though, remarkably. The gas setting is the key. Betcha AR can't do that.

Your $600 dollar FAL is a heck of alot nicer than the $700 dollar FAL's I see at my local shops.

uh, source me on the cheap mags please Deerhunter.

Ammo? It's .308, and right now I have 400 rounds, and I ordered 500 more from Cabelas, on 12 week backorder.:(

At least it was relatively cheap, at $144/500. The last 500 I ordered from the Armory, at $149/500.

steel cased is not that big of a deal. that said, in my work with FALs I have seen quite a few examples of case head seperation on steel cased. this is likely because if the gas setting is off the case is not given enough time to contract. steel needs a lot more time to contract than brass does, and also contracts less. so... rip!

One can never go wrong with a Fal it has been used by more countries than any other design in the free world and other than the AK47 is the most prolific rifle built other than maybe a Mauser.
When was the last time so many nations or people agreed on any one thing or weapon?
Mr. Saive did it right from top to bottom it has great ergonomics and balance and its a terrific design with allot going for it.
Stock away all of the magazines and spare parts you can while you can and don't forget to tuck away as much ammo as you can afford.
I have found the A.R.M.S. to be the best of the scope mounts preferring it to even the D.S.A. make for a great for mount for an IOR or Leupold scope on your rifle.
On metric rifles a nice addition is the D.S.A. L1A1 enlarged safety.
Great rifle you have there thanks for sharing.

Don't forget your tactical plaid oven mitt for that steel forend. About two magazines is all it will take until your offhand is getting cooked. ;)

$600.00??
Why the big difference then for Springfield SAR 4800's at $1400-1500? Same rifle isn't it?

Looks good anyman. Check out the thread on the surplus Lithuanian 7.62 from AIM.

Springfield rifles are factory-built from new parts.
Therefore "collectible" if that means anything.

Century rifles are angry-beaver-built from used parts.
Century guns that shoot reliably can be good shooters. Never will be worth a whole lot until the next gun-ban happens.

Check to see if your receiver is an Inch Pattern or Metric Pattern before you start buying magazines.

Typically, Century FAL's are inch pattern receivers. If so, they will not feed reliable with the cheap metric magazines.

Grats on the new gun!

It's a Century and it's metric, and it fed great with the 6 mags of steel cased ammo I fed it. I already checked that before I bought it. Thanks DH. I might have to buy a couple more now...

The fore end isn't steel, it's two pieces of plastic... and I shot about 6 mags through it today at the range, sighting it in. It is a very nice shooting rifle. So far I haven't shot any better than 3" groups at 100 yards. I have managed several 1" groups when shooting 2 the first two rounds, but the third always seems to stray a little far out.

The fore end got a little warm to the touch, but nothing hardly noticeable.

The red satin just happens to be the bedsheets that I have on currently. The wife hates them, but she was out of town last week for business, so I put them on, and I think they look great too.

Here are some pics of my targets, and a nice looking fellow shooter that caught my eye.;)

A guy showed up with a DSA FAL, and he let me shoot it, and look it over. I could see where the rifle was altogether nicer, many additional features that mine didn't have, but then again, it probably cost more than twice as much as mine. It seemed to be more accurate, but I only popped off 3 shot with it.

well, various receivers have been used in making FAL's...and I'm only just learning about the FAL...

Some are better than others...I believe Century has used many different receivers along with kits...DSA, Imbel and Dan Coonan are top notch receivers

Not sure but I thought a R1A1 would be an inch kit?

I was at a show last weekend and saw many diff Century guns, some are priced on looks, others on parts...600 bucks is good...

hope that muddies things some
