Finally broke my dry spell!

After a LONG dry spell of not harvesting a buck with a gun(I'm more than happy to harvest a doe for the meat), I finally harvested one this year!

After sitting in my spot for a while, some crunching leaves alerted me to this guy and 4 does about 120yds away coming down the hill towards me. They slowly made their way closer (probably 2 minutes, felt like 20) and after passing on a few iffy moving shots, he stopped in an opening at about 30 yds perfectly broadside. Put the cross hairs where they needed to be and let my Marlin 45-70 Guide gun bark! He mule kicked, and ran 20 yds uphill at a dead sprint face first into a tree, hit the ground, and didn't move again! I was SO EXCITED!

While field dressing him, I found the top 1/4 of the heart was disconnected from the rest, and the lungs were jelly. Very happy with the performance of the 300gr interlock going 1900fps muzzle velocity! Went through shoulder, ribs, vitals, ribs, shoulder, and found the bullet right under the skin on the off side shoulder. After cleaning the bullet, I weighed it at 264.4gr. 88% weight retention and a full mushroom is pretty darn good for a 30 yd shot!

Now after my hunting story, I'll share the good part, the pics!

Definitely worth the wait!!!

Oh man!
Worth the wait!
Congrats to you.
Nice rifle too!
Well done.
That one goes on the wall!
Just got back from dropping him off at the Taxidermist! I've become a pretty big fan of this rifle, it does very well for how/where we deer hunt!

Thanks guys! The only sad part is now I can't tell people that my wife shoots bigger deer than me! She still shoots more deer than me though!

Nice buck. Looks like he was worth waiting for. Does not matter if the wife shoots more , or bigger deer. It just matters she shoots deer. If I could get mine to field dress the ones she gets she would be perfect. She does skin and butcher.

Thanks! I'm very happy with him, and was definitely worth waiting for! My wife prefers bow hunting, and that's when she shoots her big deer. Her bow deer from this year is at the same taxidermist. She enjoys gun hunting more now that she has a rifle(Ruger 99/44) and setup she really likes, she filled an antlerless tag and filled her any sex tag with a big bodied younger buck this year. She helps butcher, field dressing isn't her thing, but she does hold the legs for me!

Congratulations! Very nice buck and a nice rifle. Never seen a cheek piece like that, what brand is it?
I used a piece of "eva foam cheek pad" that I was originally using to see how tall of a stock pack I'd need with the scope. The pad worked so well I trimmed it with a knife, sanded the corners round, and left it on. Been on there 4 years now!
