Finally brought home a SP101

Thanks for all the replies. I really didnt know that the 327 mag was that poplar. The reason that I thought that it may be a 327 mag at first, is the owner of the shop had a new one that sat around for a long time, and one day he offered it to me for $450. I passed because I wanted a 357 mag. He often gets the same guns back on trade so I initially thought that it was that one.
I have some Remington 125 grain golden saber 38 special +p ammo that I got from work back when I carried a 642 as a backup, so I think that I will use that for carry ammo. I also have some speed strips for reloads. I just need a holster for it now. I have been thinking about a good looking leather holster, but most of what I can find commerically produced is the pancake type with the three slots for the belt. I just never warmed up to those type of holsters. Hard plastic and Kydex holsters are a no go for me on this one.

I became super excited at first and then my heart sank for a split second thinking that it must be a 327 mag.

And my 327 Fed Mag says :neener:

I am still interested in the holster question myself. I think I have 5 so far, none ideal, but pancake is my preference actually, which for me keeps the guns tight against me. Except for Simply Rugged and some premium holsters, the fit for SP101 always seems to be secondary to the closest S&W standard. If it says SP101 3" or J frame, they lied. K frame, maybe.

update: Just got a Bianchi Shadow II, Model 7, part number 18616, that is a perfect fit, the gun rides high and tight. The thumb strap even fit, right from the box. The 3+" barrel is covered. The model covers 2 and 3", but I consider its complete fit to be for the 3+". I would recommend it. Found it on Amazon by Amazon.

It's not a pocket gun or ankle rig piece

Too bad... I carry mine these ways all the time - the spurless DAO version.

Owb - lobo gunleather

Iwb - crossbreed supertuck

Pocket - Mika round cut

Ankle - Renegade cozy partner

Ammo - Buffalo Barnes 140 grain copper XPB

Sight - Gemini small wonder (green)

Grips - Ruger classic rubber with inserts by chig's grips

By all accounts, used ones are the best!

I'm not talking down to the 327 Fed Mag. I'm already set up to reload 38/357. I would have to get new dies and bullets and brass for the 327, if I would have gotten it. Thanks for the heads up on the holster.

I've carried my 3" in a couple of different IWB holsters, but my most comfortable, inconspicuous, (and did I say Comfortable) method has been in a small Desantis Gunnysack. Has room for two Bianchi speedstrips with 10 extra rounds, and can't be seen under an untucked shirt.

The websites make them look huge, but they aren't in the size I have for the SP101.

Hope you enjoy it, I love both my 3+" and 2+". (Always too lazy to memorize the extra length of the SP101 barrels.)

3" SP101 with big and little brothers. All .357 mag, and all carrying Remington Express 125 grain SJHP.

Legionnaire, I havent even shot it yet! My at home range is currently planted in soy beans due to the guy driving the tractor was feeling too dedicated to his job when he was planting. I have a range day set for next week at a buddies house so I will find out then how it shoots.

Okay, but we need a range report! :)

I'm a big fan of the SP101. One of the things I really like about revolvers is that you can load them light for plinking and heavy for defense. Makes the SP a decent range as well as defensive gun.
