Finally caught the 1911 bug

Buy a Colt. They make good pistols, and they have a bit of experience with the 1911.

I appreciate all of the feedback. I have decided that maybe a budget 1911 isn't really where I want to go with this. I was just shocked that RIA even had a double stack 1911 to begin with! Looking at numerous manufacturers and read/watching multiple reviews has really got me thinking about what I want in a 1911. I have guns that can do the job but i don't have one that can do it with this much style! Currently I am considering the Remington R1, SR1911, Springfield Loaded, STI Spartan IV, and a Kimber Ultra carry. I like the price range and the looks of all of these 1911's.

1911 is an American icon. They ALL should work well right out of the box, even "budget" 1911s.
After all, $700 or $800 is still a lot of money. U should not have 2 spend 2K to be able to get it right.

Just curious why does the 1911 have such a high following? Is it because it can be highly modified like a 10/22 Ruger?

I don't want to spend that much on a 1911 but would rather buy that Sig Sauer Equinox which is around the same price as a Sig 1911. I'll stay in the $600. range for 1911.
