I've shot a few hundred rounds of a bunch of different mfg ammo through my LCP and the only one that caused trouble was the Buffalo Bore "+P" (which ruger doesn't recommend anyway). All factory fmj (WWB, Blazer, Fiocchi, Magtech, American Eagle, Federal, etc) and JHP ammo (golden saber 102, Cor-bon DXP or whatever, federal premium, Hornady, Speer gold dot) has functioned flawlessly (other than the magazine coming out prematurely, which for me was remedied by removing the ruger finger rest baseplates and putting the flat ones back on.

Today I discovered that my pistol doesn't like the Cor-Bon 90 gr JHP load. Hangs up on chambering the first round and every shot (or nearly every shot) it won't chamber the next without a push on the back of the slide.

Think a fresh recoil spring might fix it? Truthfully I don't really want to spend another 30 bucks for 20 shots to find out... the Golden Saber 102s I fired right afterward worked perfectly. Guess I'll stick with those for a while.

I would just not use any more of that particular ammo. If you have any left in a quantity to make it worthwhile you can sell it at a gun show. I sold some .380 I no longer had a gun for within 15 minutes. :D With only a "few hundred" rounds through the gun it should not need a new recoil spring.

My LCP has gone through a bunch of those Corbon JHPs. I didn't have any types of failures but I noticed something that could be a problem. While feeding it was hitting just right to cause the nose of the JHP to deform, which could definitely lead to feeding problems. I'm switching to something else because of this.

Just a personal preference, but I've always found that whatever good defensive round works flawlessly in your cc firearm is the one to stick with.

When I buy a pistol/revolver and shoot it, AND it functions perfectly right out of the box as to reliability and accuracy with a good round I just stick with that round.

For example, recently I bought a new LCP and I ran a pile of the Winchester VP380 (truncated fmj's) because they are cheaper than the dedicated personal defense rounds and it performed perfectly from round one... Absolutely reliable and surprisingly accurate..

Then I swapped over to the Speer Gold Dot jhp round and it loved them also.. So, I like Gold Dot's and my LCP likes Gold Dot's so I'm "good to go" for my carry round.

Actually I had the Gold Dots left over because they are no longer recommended for the LWS380 and I swapped over to the HydraShoks for the Seecamp pocket rocket.

I'm old, retired, poor and probably several other things that keep me from trying every new defensive round that hits the market. I do try and read up on new rounds, and IF a new round sounds good, I'll keep track of it's performance and perhaps down the road if I run up on some I'll give them a try, but I let others with more money beta test that stuff for me.

As to my Ruger LCP? I take Ruger at it's word, and have no interest in using +p (and I didn't even know there WAS a recognized standard in 380cal for such a thing) rounds because they say don't do it.

I don't do it.:D

But I don't tell anyone else what to do, that's their business.

Just ramblin', no offense.

Best Wishes,

Jesse

None taken. I was given mixed signals about the "+P" Buffalo Bore at the time, and the first mag or 2 through the gun worked okay... but then I started having problems with it, and didn't buy another box. I figure 20 rounds didn't do any lasting damage to the gun.

The "standard pressure" rounds have all worked flawlessly until I got to the Cor-Bon 90 FMJ. I think atomd must have it right... it jams up on the feed ramp. Dunno why, as similarly shaped projectiles from other makers work great. In any case, I don't have any more and won't buy any more... at least for that gun.
