Well after a several years of reading the various threads about Ruger's snubbie and telling myself that I already own two snubbies and don't need another one I caved.

A fellow officer at my department has been trying to sell his SP101 2.25" (357 mag) for almost a year with no takers. Yesterday he offered it to me for $250.00 and in a moment of weakness I said yes. He brought it in this morning and I promptly took it to the range and qualifed with it. Not bad.Not bad at all.:)

I expected it to be chunkier, but it's no bigger than my Colt Detective Special. Which is my current BUG/CCW. And that's good news because it fits my ankle and belt holsters and I don't have to buy more. While I lose a round with the Ruger I get Five .357 mags so it's a tradeoff I can live with.

Well I'm a Smith and Wesson wheelgun fan, but I now own three Ruger revolvers. A GP 100, New Model Blackhawk and an SP 101. If I'm not careful I'm going to find myself with a Bearcat or perhaps a Single Six. This is actually pretty funny because it wasn't that long ago that I looked at Rugers in disdain. Well I'm older now and more mature. Rugers are okay.I have seen the error of my ways.

I love my ssSP101!

I carry it in a small horrizontal shoulder holster that's just up under my arm pit. It's really concealed under a loose untucked shirt. Yet still very accessible. I'm not a peace officer. So most of the time, I don't want anyone to know that I'm packin. With the extra bang of the magnum, (No, I don't expect full magnum performance from a short barrel), loosing a round from the other snubbies I have, (Colt Cobra's), is of no concern to me. Most of the time I've got Remington +p Golden Sabres or some +p Black Tallons loaded though. But when I'm carrying while riding dirt bike in the hills, Magnum loads are the order. And although it's a shorty, I've fired the same loads I do in my big Dan Wesson, and the SP101 will handle them. -My hand needs to soak in ice afterward though.

Oh, and there are several Rugers in and Colts in my safe. No Smiths though. Not one.

My 3" SP 101 is one handgun that I simply would NOT get rid of. There's a lot to be said for it being a really great all around handgun. I had a 2 1/4" and it was fine, but the 3 1/16" barrel completely changes the handling dynamics. I'll keep mine !

Another happy customer...

I've got the SP DAO 2" and plan to get a 3" soon. All around great handling guns - and no locks - kind of nice. ;)

I've got my SP tricked out to where I think one should be. I realize your tastes may vary.

It's an SP in 357 with a 2.25" bbl. DAO Action smoothed and tuned with some wolff springs. Front sight replaced with a Meprolight night sight. I had a Trijicon installed earlier but the green glowing dot was way toooo small.

And I put a set of Pachmayrs on it that really gives you something to hang on to and has the best speedloader clearance of any grip for an SP that I have seen.

Gun shoots to Point of Aim with W-W 357 145 gr Silvertips and I'm satisfied with my BUG gun.

Hard to beat Ruger they make a good revolver
I have also went with Ruger more in the last couple years, when I would have gotten something else in the past

Got a .22lr SP

I grabbed a used but NIB unfired SP101 .22lr today with the 2-1/4" barrel. Guy originally bought it in '99, never used it.
